US Outlaw Nationals: Outlaw 10.5

Keith Hargett had a bad weekend, he ended up 24th in the field with a 5.36 150.62 pass.

Brad Scoggins and the Otwell Racing Nova are new to Outlaw 10.5 racing. he ended 23 with a 4.98 best.

Marquis Ross crashed the week before and just made to the US Outlaw Nationals, Ross ran a 4.98 in the Candyman Camaro.

The first US Outlaw Nationals was held at the Texas Motorplex this weekend. The US Outlaw Nationals was put on by groups of Texas based Outlaw 10.5 racers and Len Mar Motorsports. The race began with a wild Test and Tune session Friday night. The highlights included the fastest Outlaw 10.5 pass ever by Tim Lynch. Lynch ran a wild 4.31!

This flamed Outlaw 10.5 racer from New Mexico ran 4.85 for the 21th spot.

Kenny Esner could not get the little blue Corvette into the field running a 4.76 best that got him the 20th spot.

Tim Rivette bought a engine from Matt Jones , but ended up the number 19 qualifier with a 4.75 in his Yenko clone Camaro.

Below is the final qualifying field of Outlaw 10.5 racers. The final field included 8 nitrous cars, 6 turbo cars, and 2 supercharged cars. Billy Marton and Ray Jasso broke letting in Dennis Segrue and Fernado Ayala to race.

Fernando Ayala was the number two alternate in the Spanish Fly 69 Camaro with a 4.73.

Dennis Segrue got his licence Friday and raced on Sunday as the first alternate after running a 4.72 in qualifying.

Ray Jasso made the field in the final spot with a 4.72 but broke and was unable to race.

Jessee Brantley ran a 4.52 best ever on test run after losing in the first round.

Bryan Markiewicz beat the blonw Mustang of Bill Jewitt with a 4.52 to Jewitt's 4.58.

Steve Kirk's 4.56 beat Rick Cook's 5.28 in the first round.

Bill Jewitt took on Bryan Markiewicz to begin Sunday eliminations. Blown versus nitrous and Ford versus Chevy. Jewitt is getting this Outlaw 10.5 down, but it was not enough this time as his 4.585 163.22 falls to a 4.528 166.88. Dennis Sugrue just got his licence Friday and landed in the field as an alternate. Bryan Hertzog beat the rookie 5.309 151.43 to Segrue's tire spinning 8.267 53.96. Steve Kirk Jr beat Rick Cook 4.56 164.33 to 5.289 124.16 in the next race. Shane Gray and Cory Wheat was next to race in Outlaw 10.5. Wheat has the ex-Craig Miller Camaro to replace his early model Camaro. Wheat took this with a 4.566 166.69 to Gray's 4.65 156. Turbo and blown was next Kenny Hubbard in his Monte Carlo and Shortridge in his Camaro. The turbo car takes this one 4.579 166.11 to 4.656 160. This race was all McCrary with a 4.406 172.95 to Brantley's 5.32 157.15. Number one qualifier Tim Lynch was next to race Fernando Ayala. The Spanish Fly went up in smoke and Lynch laid down a 4.356 176.02.

Cory Wheat just bought Craig Miller's Camaro and use it to beat Shane Gray in the first round with a 4.56.

Chris Shortridge took out the blown Monte Carlo SS of Kenny Hubbard with a 4.57 to Hubbard's 4.65.

Jeff Naiser ran a 4.60 to beat Jack Barfield's redlighting 4.68, but broke on the run.

Cory Wheat in the Punisher Camaro beat Brian Hertzog 4.58 to 4.70. Jeff Naiser broke on his first round win giving the solo to Kirk in the second round. Kirk ran 4.54 161 on the solo pass to advance to the finals. Grant McCrary's 4.49 170.21 beat Bryan Markewicz 4.74 156.02. Tim Lynch's 4.47 175.75 covered Chris Shortridge's red lighting 4.698 162.28.

Grant McCary beat Jessee Brantley with a 4.40 172 run in the first round.

Lynch beat the Spanish Fly of Fernando Ayala in the first round with a 4.35.

Two Texasn faced off Cory Wheat beat Brian Hertzog 4.58 to 4.70.

 
The semis was a classic turbo Ford versus nitrous Chevy. In the first pair Grant McCrary's 4.49 169.55 took down Steve Kirk's 4.563. In the last pair Tim Lynch beat the Camaro of Wheat. Lynch 4.40 on a rail beat the wild wheelstanding 4.60 158 of Wheat.

Steve Kirk got a solo in the second round when Jeff Naise broke, Kirk ran 4.59.

McCrary's 4.49 beat Bryan Markiewicz's 4.74 in the second round.

Tim Lynch and Chris Shortridge raced in round two, Lynch won 4.47 to 4.69.

The number one and two qualifiers ended up in the finals and they put on a show for the crowd. Tim Lynch won this one with a wild 4.39 174.15 to the oh so close 4.415 172.19 of Grant McCrary. The Lynch Mob took the large $20,000 check and the bragging rights back to Georgia in a fast Stang!

Steve Kirk Jr. lost to McCary 4.56 to 4.49.

Cory Wheat rode out a wheelstanding 4.60 losing to Lynch's 4.40.

Tim Lynch beat local racer grant mcCary 4.39 to 4.41 in the final of the US Outlaw nationals.
