Extreme 10.5 Field at Baytown

By Danny and Gena White

Steve Gorman not only won the opening race of the 2008 ADRL season, Gorman also set low e.t. at 4.35 in Baytown. Gorman had Monte Smith add a extra carb to the Hans Fuestal setup this year.

Chassis builder David Janes made it to the finals at Baytown with his Grand Am. The beautiful ex Pro Stock car lost on a holeshot to Gorman in a race that featured side by side 4.411's! Janes ran a best of 4.385 171.03 in his homebuilt car.

Kenny Kneese was the number three qualifier in the former Landon Jordan Pro Mod car. The powerglide equipped car wasted a great 4.370 170.21 run on a redlight start in the semis against Steve Gorman. It should be noted that Kneese made five full runs.

Michele Wilson made it to the semis upsetting Mike Hill and Gary White in the process. The Azle, Texas based racer ran a best of 4.369 168.16 in the first round. Wilson broke on the line against David Janes in the semi finals.

Shane Gray made the debut appearance in his father Johnny Gray's new Chevy II. The Don Ness built Chevy has a Reher Morrison built 728 Chevrolet for power. Gray ran a best of 4.66 160.44.

Bill Jewett debuted a true Outlaw 10.5 earlier this year but brought the tried and true Cyclonic Mustang for Extreme 10.5 action at Baytown. Jewett made it to the second round where a fuel leak forced him out, The loud and wild Stang ran a best of 4.413 176.42.

Gary White was the number one qualifier at Baytown. White ran a best of 4.369 170.73 in the 180 cid Scion. White fell to Michele Wilson in the second round.

Cory Wheat made a big splash in his ADRL debut in Charles Osborne's Gene Fulton powered Cavalier. The team showed little trouble with the little tires when he ran 4.367 171.79 in the first round. A second round fireball ended his night early in the ex IHRA Pro Stocker.

Famed, longtime Outlaw 10.5 racer Todd Moyer also made his ADRL debut at Baytown. Moyer qualified number 15 and fell in the first round to Steve Gorman with a 4.672 153.72 run that had Moyer pedaling down the track. Look for the team to improve on this showing in the ex-Kenny Koretsky Firebird.

Tim Savell made his Extreme 10.5 debut at Baytown in this Doug Holt built Outlaw 10.5 69 Camaro. Savell had problems running only a 5.142 136.87 best. The 632 cid Chevy Camaro broke on the run. The team plans to build a true Extreme 10.5 Corvette this year.

Young Alex Viscardi ran one Extreme 10.5 race last year in the Viscardi family Mustang. The team has built a new twin-turbo engine for the Dan Parker built chassis. The team ran a 4.74 best falling in the first round to Kenny Kneese. A new Jerry Haas Mustang is on the way for the Louisiana based team!

The burnout king of the ADRL Micheal Neal had high hopes for the first ADRL race of the year coming off a 4.37 pass at Emerald Coast the week before. Neal could only run a best of 4.74 in qualifying and broke in the first round.

This shot here says it all for Frankie Taylor Extreme 10.5 debut in Wayne Long's Baytown based River Rat Camaro. The team had traction problems and could only run a best of 5.236 155.25.

H.T. Wilson also made his ADRL Extreme 10.5 debut at Baytown. H.T. did not qualify but got in as an alternate running a good 4.602 157.03 against David Janes in the first round in the Wilson Family's Willie Rellis built Camaro.

Mike Hill ran a 4.24 on a test set of 10.5 tires at Carolina Dragway winning a race there. The popular racer could not match that performance at Baytown. Hill fell to Michele Wilson in a close race 4.383 169.09 to Wilson's better 4.369.

Famous Limited Street racer Chad Revia made his ADRL debut also at Baytown. The Ballistic Race Cars built 67 Camaro ran a great 4.845 159.17 on true 10.5 tires in the first round going down in defeat to Cory Wheat.

The world's fastest Corvair made an appearance at Baytown. The car was once a Pro Extreme car, but now featured a 477 cid Chevy with one carb on two stages of nitrous. The Injected Poison 65 Corvair made improvements on each run with driver David Sangster running a best of 4.77 in the first round. It should be noted that that run was without wheelie bars!
