REICHERT, MANZO WIN AT MAPLE GROVE
READING, Pa. (May 30, 2010) – Bill Reichert and Frank Manzo led this weekend’s winners for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Maple Grove Raceway. Both are the current NHRA Lucas Oil National Champions and Reichert of Owosso, Mich., is also the defending event champion in Top Alcohol Dragster.
Reichert qualified No. 4 and took out Arthur Gallant, Boxboro, Mass., and Dan Mercier, Laprairie, Quebec. in rounds one and two before meeting up with John Finke in the final round. Reichert ran his best pass of the weekend at 5.369 seconds, 268.06 for the win while Finke had trouble and slowed to a 9.820 second pass.
Manzo, Morganville, N.J., qualified No. 1 and ran low elapsed time of each round posting laps of 5.58, 5.56, and 5.56 during eliminations. Manzo’s 5.568-second, 259.81 mph run gave him the win over Thomas Carter, Cuero, Texas, in the final of Top Alcohol Funny Car.
Sal Biondo out of Maspeth, N.Y., cashed in for the win in Comp Eliminator as he ran down Joe Carnasciale, Cranston, R.I., in his ’93 Beretta and Thomasville, Pa., resident Marty Rinehart Jr. won over Jack Sepanek in Super Stock and a battle of ’69 Cameros.
Stock racer John Shaul, Fultonham, N.Y., took the trophy in beating Matt Welker, Clear Spring, Md., while Arthur DeCesare and Gary Koebbe won in Top Sportsman and Top Dragster respectively. DeCesare, Mooresville, N.C., went 7.246 seconds at 184.83 mph to knock off Michael Kaufamn, Woodcliff Lake, N.J., and Koebbe, Fairfield, Conn., held off Luc Angers, with a pass of 7.074 at 188.17 mph.
Rounding out the winner’s were Jason Kenny, Kingston, Ont., over Chris DePascale, in Super Comp; Bernard Weaver, Madison, Va., won in Super Gas against Todd Logan, East Stroundberg, Pa.; and Frank Abad, Wading River, N.Y., ousted Don Garbinski, Philadelphia, Pa., in Super Street.
Northeast Division racers head to Lebanon Valley Dragway for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, July 2-4.
