ADRL Drag Illustrated Dragpalooza IV: Extreme 10.5

By Danny White

The National Guard Flowmaster ADRL Extreme 10.5 class took to the track Saturday with only two sessions to set the field after Friday test and tune and first qualifying session was canceled due to the extreme wind and cold temperatures. The teams found the track tricky the first session and into the second session due to the lack of track time. Many new teams were making their ADRL Extreme 10.5 debut like Cory Wheat, Shane Gray, David Sangster, Chad Revia, Gary White, Todd Moyer, Frankie Taylor, H.T. Wilson, and Tim Savell. This would be the first 16-car field in ADRL Extreme 10.5 history. Gary White landed on top of the field in the turbocharged Titan Scion with a 4.428 165.33. Defending Extreme 10.5 champ Steve Gorman gathered the second spot with a very close 4.440. The title sponsor car of David Janes was the number four car a 4.49 164.21. The sixteen car field was held down by a 5.236 155.24 by Frankie Taylor in the blown 10.5 Camaro that he was driving for the weekend.

The first round began with the number eight Mike Hill and number eight qualifier Michelle Wilson. Michele Wilson pulled out the upset with a great 4.369 168.16 to Hill's close 4.383 169.04. Shane Gray, son of Johnny Gray, won the next race with a 4.681 71.68 after Michael Neal broke after his burnout in Tom Ashley's Chevy II. David Sangster ran a good 4.733 148.59 in the world's fastest Corvair, but it was not enough to beat Bill Jewett's 4.413 176.43. Cory Wheat ran a great 4.367 171.79 to beat Chad Revia's true 10.5 Camaro that ran a 4.845 159.17.

David Janes took out H.T. Wilson 4.465 167.25 to 4.603 157.03, Wilson had taken the spot of Tim Savell. Kenny Kneese drove the Joker's Wild Corvette to a solid 4.470 163.45 run to beat the teenage Alex Viscardi's 4.748 in the Viscardi family 66 Mustang. Steve Gorman ran low ET of the round with a 4.352 163.16 that covered Todd Moyer's 4.671 153.72. Gary White ended the first round with a 4.369 170.23 run that covered the tire smoking 6.306 91.65 of Frankie Taylor.

The second round started out with a bang with Cory Wheat suffered a nitrous backfire in his Cavalier, that allowed David Janes to win with a great 4.385 171.63. Bill Jewtt could not start his blown Mustang and Kenny Kneese singled to a solid 4.462 167.29. Steve Gorman ran a 4,348 163.81 to beat the up in smoke 13.850 60.40 of Shane Gray. Michele Wilson beat Gary White in a pedal fest 5.443 145.90 to the 5.955 118.70 of White.

The semis began with Kneese and Gorman facing off in the first pair. The race was anticlimactic as Kneese red lighted giving the win to Gorman. Kneese had to be even more frustrated when he ran a great 4.370 170.21 to the pedaling 4.685 12.04 of Gorman. Janes singled to the final round with a 4.434 169.92 after Wilson broke on the starting line.

The final was awesome as both racers ran 4.411 with Gorman taking the holeshot win. The win back up the Battle of the Belt win that Gorman won last year at Ennis.
