Clint Satterfield made it two in a row with ex-John Lingenfelter Sonoma in Outlaw Top Sportsman action. Satterfield towed from New Mexico for back to back races at Dallas Raceway ironically beating Eddie Roach twice in the finals in the same manner. Satterfield qualified with a 4.712 150.58 for the number two spot. Satterfield dispatched David Baldwin with a 4.713 135.31 to 7.026 65.64 in the first round. Satterfield got a break in round two when his 5.391 143.06 was saved by Randy Neihauser red lighting 4.735 145.14. In the finals Satterfield ran a 4.757 to win over Roach’s 15.610 shutoff run.
Eddie Roach just got into Saturday’s field with a 4.736 151.46 that landed him on the bump spot. In the first round Roach’s 4.706 154.55 chased Mat Thomas’ 4.689 149.33 out the back door for the win. In the second round a holeshot allowed Roach’s 4.744 132.75 to beat Dave Moser’s 4.749 146.83. In the final with Roach having lane choice he choose the right lane but Roach’s 15.610 was no match for Satterfield’s 4.757 win. This was Eddie Roach’s second runner up in as many weeks not bad for the Avilla based racer.
Outlaw Top Sportsman newcomer Randy Neihauser made his presence known at the Outlaw Door Slammer Spring Nationals. Neihauser qualified number six with a 4.725 148.30 in his Haning Racing backed Camaro. Neihauser cut a better light on the Williams and Miller Corvette running a 4.748 148.82 and the Vette to break out with a 4.653 149.68. In the semis Neiheiser jumped the gun negating a 4.735 145.14 allowing Satterfield to win with a 5.391 143.06.
Dave Moser made his return to Outlaw Top Sportsman racing at Dallas Raceway with the former Richie Stevens’ Valspar Firebird. The Wichita Falls based Moser ran 4.721 at only 129.33 for the fifth spot in the tight field. Moser slept on the light but his 4.713 147.36 was enough to advance when H.T. Wilson broke out with a 4.674 142.19. In the semis Ed Roach got the holeshot and a 4.744 132.75 win to beat Moser’s 4.749 146.83.
Mat Thomas did not run the sessions Friday and only ran one Saturday. Thomas made the run count though when a 4.706 150.45 popped on the boards. That allowed him to win the bonus money posted by Nitrous Express. The day for Thomas did not last long as Ed Roach ran 4.706 154.55 to Thomas 4.689 149.33 breakout run.
The CTS Racing Corvette of Barry Williams and John Miller was the only small block in the OTS field as usual. That did not hurt the team as their 4.716 148.22 was good enough for the third spot. In the first round Robert Neiheiser cut a .031 light and a 4.748 148.82 forced the Miller/Williams team to break out with a 4.653 149.68.
H.T. Wilson also made his return to Outlaw Top Sportsman racing with the repaired Clark Bros Paint & Body backed Camaro. Wilson’s 4.720 150.20 got him in the top half of the field in the fourth spot. In the first round Wilson broke out with a 4.674 142.19 that allowed a very late Dave Moser to win with a 4.713 147.36.
David Baldwin was the only racer to make the OTS field and the Pro Mod field at Dallas Raceway in the Butler Motorsports Corvette. Baldwin ran a 4.727 144.21 for the seventh spot in the OTS field. Baldwin had problems at a gear shift and was only able to run a 7.026 65.64 while Satterfield ran a 4.713 135.31 to advance to the semis.
2008 Outlaw Top Sportsman champion Chris Dollar brought the wild flamed Wichita Tank Firebird out for battle. The car that won championships for Tommy Keeter and Chris Dollar landed in the first alternate spot. Dollar almost made the field despite having problems with a 4.739 152.59 just .003 out of the field.
NHRA Top Sportsman racer Rex Underwood runs a few Outlaw Top Sportsman races a year and he put in an appearance at Outlaw Door Slammer Spring Nationals. Underwood and his all white Beretta came very close to making the tough OTS field. The 4.749 148.90 by Underwood just missed the 4.73 bump.
Chuck Poindexter entered the Outlaw Top Sportsman and the Pro Mod class at the Outlaw Door Slammer Spring Nationals. Poindexter was unable to make the field in either class with the Pat Edwards blown Beretta. Poindexter did the best in the Outlaw Top Sportsman with a 4.778 151.65 for the eleventh spot in the OTS field.
Mike McGraw came down to Crandall to race from Caddo Mills in his show quality Camaro. The wild high riding Camaro was unable to make the field, but McGraw ran a good 4.849 144.88 for the number twelve spot.
Richie Price and the Back Road Country Boys made a rare appearance with their Outlaw Top Sportsman Camaro at the Outlaw Door Slammer Spring Nationals. Price made a run Friday night with a 5.320 140.99 and did not run Saturday. Price ended up thirteen in the final field.
Johnny Arrington was unable to make the field in his home built S-10 pickup. Arrington, who lives near the Crandall track, ran a 6.204 111.12 end up in the fourteenth spot in the Outlaw Door Slammer Spring Nationals.
