Shakedown at E-Town 2011

By Ted Pappacena

Mike Castellana was Grand Marshall of the event and won it all in Pro Mod Nitrous.

The 2011 edition of David Hance’s Shakedown @ E-Town is in the books and it was another barn burner. The weekend of October 8 & 9 was greeted by Indian Summer weather with mid 80 degree temps both days. So, in essence it was hot in E-Town and so was the racing!

Blown Pro Mod had a Who’s Who of the class including the likes of Dwayne Wolfe’s Firebird, Eric Latino’s Camaro, Pete Farber’s gorgeous Daytona, eventual runner up Tim O’Hare’s Camaro, and event promoter David Hance’s twin turbo 5 second ‘57 Chevy. Unfortunately for Dave, he went out in the semis on a red light. The winner of the class was the Steve Petty assisted GTO of Jorge Gonzalez (El General).

Nitrous Pro Mod had its share of heavy hitters including Mike Castallana’s Al-Anabi backed Shannon Jenkins-tuned Camaro, John Hall’s Camaro, Freddy Scriba’s potent Sorcerer 'Vette, Gary Courtier’s Camaro, and a host of others. In the end, Mike Castellana was the class of the field, setting Low ET (5.87) and Top Speed (242.41) (during qualifying) and taking all the marbles as well as being the event’s Grand Marshall.

Outlaw 10.5 had the heavy hitters as well. Sexton Racing’s blown GTO had Low ET with a stunning 4.14 (1/8 mile), while Larry Wood’s ‘Vette had Top Speed at 191.16. Both marks were set during qualifying. Also on hand was Chuck Ulsch’s beautiful blown ‘02 Camaro, which unfortunately lost a blower belt at the line in the semis. Larry Wood’s ‘Vette won the class when all the dust settled.

Other winners were Sam Gottier’s  hood tossing Chevelle in Heavy Street, Steve Jackson’s Mustang in Drag Radial, Rich Bruder’s Mustang in X-275, Jorge Lazcano in Extreme Import, and Bud Yoder in Pro Street Bike.

Jorge Gonzalez had 'upset' on his mind taking the Blown Pro Mod segment of the Shakedown.

Shannon Jenkins had the Mike Castellana, Al-Anabi Pro Nitrous Camaro wailing all day long in eliminations.

Larry Wood's blue beauty had the field covered in Outlaw 10.5.

Sam Gottier's Chevelle tossed the hood during his final round win in Heavy Street.

David Hance's twin turbo 57 Chevy yanked 'em mid track twice during eliminations, but hit the red eye in the semis.

Peter Farber's gorgeous fire engine red Daytona needed all that sunshine to show it off.

Steve Jackson's turbo Mustang boils the hides prior to his victory in Drag Radial.

Bud Yoder was the class of the field in Pro Street Bike with a 7.31/201mph in the final.

Scott Filkins' nasty looking and sounding blown Dart had it all until he grenaded a motor in the lights during qualifying session #2 on Saturday.
