Texas Back Half Outlaws:Dallas Raceway

Text by Summer ~ Photos by Wes Strom

It was definately a hot day in Texas and we had 16 Teams roll in for their 1st organized race at Dallas Raceway. To say the least the track is an amazing place and to be one of the organizations running there is complimentary. And plenty of parking for the teams and easy access to everything.

Round 1:

Mike Graham (W) .068  Beautiful Deep Blue Camaro
Shawn Wilholt (L) .083  Awesome Red 64 Nova

Mike was out of there 1st and Shawn's car lunged out of there with attitude. But something happened with Shawn's car and it went away on him.

Richie Price (W) .121 Great Blue/White striped Camaro
Blake McBride (L) .044 Gorgeous Show Style Orange Camaro

Blake got out ahead on Richie and then Richie put the horse power into play and they looked like they were fighting it out together until the end. Blake wasn't giving up any!

Bud Morgan (Comp Bye) .100 Gold Camaro
Glenn Ward (Fouled)

Glenn couldn't make the call to the lanes and Bud took the ex-Gold Rush car for it's first debut down the track since last year. Good to see Bud driving and the Gold Camaro back on the track with it's new Owner Will. The car had been down since last season having reconstruction done since it's track related accident.

Lil Fernando Ayala (W) .009 Awesome "Baby Fly" Luv Truck
Marc McClaskey (L) .135  Great Looking Full Size Chevy Truck

This was the match race we had been looking for. Full size vs. Small size. Well size doesn't always count in Texas! Lil Fernando has been on top of his game for awhile and Marc just wasn't expecting that Fly to sting like a Bee!

Butch Johnson (Bye) .017  Bad Azz 55 Chevy
He took a practice run down the track that was as serious as they get!

Flip Wilson (W) .057 Great Looking Blue Stang with Ghost Flames
Steve Press (Foul) -.051 Newcomer 70 Chevelle

Steve got a little hyper and left that light just a "little" too soon. Not that Flip needs any help but, Steve gave this one away. Good to have you as a new member Steve!

Alan D. (Bye) .040 Beautiful Flawless 3 tone Camaro
Alan took a practice run and he wasn't kidding around with it.

Albert Longoria (W) .001 (Wow) The Good Looking Joker Camaro
Gaylen Smith (L) .082  The Infamous Checkerboard Camaro

Albert stung with an awesome light, but, Gaylen is having a few issues with the Checkerboard and ran off paced for the loss.

JoJo Melton (W) .020  The Mysterious Beast Turbo Camaro
Fred Lee (Foul) -.001   The All New Cadillac Red Camaro

Fred was trying to cut a light on JoJo and sliced it just enough to give it away. But, this was a race in itself that put two awesome cars on a fight for the end.

The quickest RT was .001 , The fastest car was 151.70

Round 2:

Flip Wilson (W) .030
Richie Price (L) .016

Richie cut the light on Flip for the advantage but, that Stang just hung with him and just got passed him for the win.

Bud Morgan (W) .067
Butch Johnson (L) .020

Butch put that 55 out front and Bud just ran passed him showing no mercy.

Lil Fernando (W) .010
Alan D. (L) .009

The RT with this one shows that both driver's were on their game, but, that Camaro of Alan's turned into a bucking horse when it shot out of there. That car has some power it just couldn't tame off the line.

Mike Graham (Bye)

Made a sweet little pass with no intentions of hurting anything.

JoJo Melton (W) .113
Albert Longoria (L) .064

Albert didn't chop the tree down but, JoJo was a little slow bringing life to the Beast and he just ran Albert down.

Quickest RT was .009 Fastest car was 149.56

Round 3:

JoJo Melton .381
Lil Fernando (Broke)

Lil Fernando did the burnout and something didn't sound right. He backed up and the "baby fly" died and refused to start. JoJo waited giving him a little time to try to get it going but, it just wasn't going to go. So JoJo took his light and went solo.

Mike Graham (W) .078
Flip Wilson (L) .035

This race was Nasty all the way down the track until the light told us what happened.

Bud Morgan (Bye) .111

Got a good practice run in on this one. The car is starting to come around.

Quickest RT was .035 Fastest car was 146.55

Semi's:

Bud Morgan (W) .046
Mike Graham (Fouled) -.179

Mike is usually pretty tight on the tree but he was looking for the biggest advantage he could get on this race.

JoJo Melton (Bye)

JoJo had some issues with the tree and went on down the track for a solo.

Quickest RT is .046 Fastest Car is 151.92

Finals:

JoJo Melton (W) .133
Bud Morgan (L) .061

Bud was out and gone on JoJo and JoJo caught him and started pulling away just enough that the Gold Camaro went crazy at 3/4 track and crossed onto the center line and took out a cone. Bud did an awesome job of getting the car under control and back into his lane but it cost him the race. Good job Bud on the driving experience!

Congratulations to Melton Motorsports on your 2nd win at Dallas Raceway and Bud Morgan/ Will on your 1st race in the new Camaro and your R/U. Not only did they get the checks this time the track gave them a beautiful trophy each.
