Texas Raceway: Texas Back Half Outlaws

Story by Summer

This was the Final Race of the Season and we had 18 cars roll in ready to Battle it out and that they did, too. It was a great night for Racing and Texas Raceway had their game on for us and the Track was in great shape. It was also the night for the Awards presentations.

Round 1:
Travis Franklin (W) .029 Gear Head Mustang
John Sheffield (L)  .070  Last Race Winner Turbo Stang
John wasn't quite ready for it and didn't get the boost up in time. I forsee a grudge race coming soon between these two competitors.

Richie Price (W) .067 Great Blue Camaro
Derek Lewis (L) .220 Silver Nova
Richie was on his game and was off and gone and Derek made a good pass trying to catch him.

Andrew Weil (W) .082 Blue 91 Stang
Joe Melton (L) .053 Turbo Camaro
JoJo was out of the hole 1st but had to peddle it on the track and the stang passed him up.

Fred Lee (Bye) Westside Camaro
Bull Cole (Broke) Will Davis Camaro

Fred got the bye on this one because the Davis Camaro had to be pushed off the starting line.

Butch Johnson (W) .130 Bad 55 Chevy
Richard Piper (L) .163 Beautiful Nova
Butch was all over the track and up against the wall and that Nova just couldn't catch him.

Gaylen Smith (Bye) Checkerboard Camaro
Kelly Willis (Broke) could not make the call

Raymond Longoria (Bye) X430
Albert Longoria (Broke) Joker
This was to be a Brother and Brother race and the Joker could not make the call.

Mike Jordan (W) .017 Black Stang
LiL Fernando Ayala (L) .104 Green Morgan Nova
This was the perfectly matched race and Mike cut that light with the best RT of the night out of all!

Richard Blair (W) .240 79 Corvette
Blake McBride (L) .119 69 Camaro
Teammates faced off with each other and Richard appeared to give Blake the "hit" and then drove around him.

Round 2:

Richie Price (W) .046
Mike Jordan (L) .062
Mike was off his game with this one and Richie left him and was gone for the win!

Travis Franklin (Bye)

Andrew Weil (Bye)
Fred Lee (Broke)
This was a strange one: Andrew's crew had to push him and "coast" him into the beams. He was hurt but he had to take the light under his own power. Fred's trans was broke and couldn't make the call. Andrew started the car and drove it down the track. at a slow pace to make next round. Good job Guys.

Gaylen Smith (W) .088
Ray Longoria (L) .039
This race was one of the tightest we saw all night! Longoria was on one of his best games ever! You had to wait for the light to see who won it!

Butch Johnson (W) .063
Richard Blair (Foul) -.169
Richard forgot to wait on the green and got a heckova holeshot to give this one away.

Round 3:

Travis Franklin (W) .111
Richie Price (L) .057
Richie was out the door on this one but just couldn't hold off that Gear Head stang!

Gaylen Smith (W) .106
Andrew Weil (L)
Andrew's stang was hurt and he crippled it down the track.

Butch Johnson (Bye) Lucky 55

Semi's:

Travis Franklin (W) .032
Butch Johnson (L) .061
That Bad 55's luck ran out here, but, he's still in the number 3 spot for the second year final race in a row!

Gaylen Smith (Bye)

Finals:

Gaylen Smith .055
Travis Franklin .038
It came down to Chevy vs. Ford in the Finals and they looked like they were Cruising on the Freeway together side by side until Gaylen pulled ahead just before the end to get the Win!

Congrats to Gaylen Smith and Crew on your win at the final race of the Season!  Thanks to all the competitors that turned out for this one also, and we had 61 different competitors for the overall season! We want to thank Mrs. LM, Ashley Smith, Nikki the Great, Shelly Frost and Team DFWSS for all your help this season. Thanks to the advertisers and sponsors and Harry's Hot Rod Shop in Grand Prairie. Special thanks to Texas Raceway for all your hard work and dedication for another great season!
