Drag Racing Story of the Day!
That Ol' Black Magic
by James Morgan
R.C. Sherman and crewmember pack the chute before the
first round of the 1976 "New England Funny Car Nationals." Sherman
put together what may be the finest string of runs ever at New England,
belching out times of 6.26, 6.24, 6.25, 6.32, and a final round 6.37 to win
the 32 car event. Sherman's 6.24 held for low ET (only other car in the 20's
was "Jungle," but he broke on the burnout in Round 3) and his 229
was top speed. Word is that Sherman and crew never had the heads off all day.
LONG LIVE MATCH RACING!
