Classic Thunder Joins NMCA in Atlanta
By Bill Pratt
When the National Muscle Car Association kicks off its 2003 season at Atlanta Dragway March 14-16, it will bring more than the world's fastest street legal race cars. Joining the NMCA at the Hot Rod Nationals will be the Classic Thunder nostalgia drag racing series. A cross section of Classic Thunder racers will be on hand, including blown and injected front engine dragsters, classic funny cars, supercharged altereds, and A/ and B/Gassers. Classic Thunder will run heads up eliminators in all five classes.
Formed in 2002, Classic Thunder is the world's fastest growing drag racing organization, swelling to more than 300 active members within a few short months. The organization also has grown from one division in 2002 to five divisions in 2003. Classic Thunder covers the entire eastern half of the United States and Canada and the newest division establishes a presence on the West Coast. Classic Thunder organizers have two goals. One goal is to provide racers across the country a fun place to compete in their classic race cars. The other is to provide drag racing fans at smaller venues a chance to see these exciting cars up close for a nominal admission fee. Classic Thunder is currently finalizing dates for the 2003 racing season.
