More Econo Funnies!

Ex fuel racer Bob Weidlein has this gem of a Vette.

Saw a brief article on the econo funnies of the late seventies. Yeah, they were plentiful then; however, their respective owners never seemed to follow any one particular theme in terms of powerplants.  Some relied on injected gas big block Chevys; others ran mild single 4 bbl bracket motors and everything in between.  The end result was a disparity in performance, from low tens to mid eights.  And yes, the cars were not really viable as consistent bracket cars for a variety of reasons.

There was a circuit for them though, as they appeared as a supplement at the bigger 32/64/100 car fuel circus shows that existed then.  Any promotion claiming 64 or more floppers did so based on counting the gas burners as floppers. This eliminated any "false advertising" claims (as if then that would be an issue).  Some of the cars ranged from mid 60's era. For instance, the Lady Bug 66 Ford Mustang: it was a former Gas Ronda car, then Psycho II, then the Lady Bug (campaigned by the wife of one of the former Psycho owners, Pat Mahnken), and then a purpose built comp eliminator A/EA car.
