Panic UK: Funny Car Design Upgrade
By Mark Gredzinski
Following my last picture of the slingshot illustration, I thought I would send you another item of interest. Around 1997, there was a Mustang nitro funny car campaigned in England owned by Norwegian Rune Fjeld and piloted by experienced handler Gary Page. Gary is still racing and tuning nitro cars currently but one of the cars that he and his brothers Dave and Clive raced was the famous Panic T altered.
In blown methanol form this car used to run low sevens in Pro Comp in the early eighties and was painted to match the legendary Panic fuel altered of Gary Hazen and Gene Velebil.
At the time, the Mustang funny car was painted overall in what I thought was a rather uninspiring darkish blue. I thought I would liven it up with a paint scheme that paid homage to the Panic T, to show how I thought it should look like. Gary liked the design but had no influence on the outcome of the eventual look of the car and it never got painted. However, I reckon looked quite neat and I thought I’d share it with your readers.
