Summer Nationals – Sportsman Drag Racing
Santa Pod Racers Club – 19th – 20th June 2010
Santa Pod Raceway - England
Fired up with their performance at the Main Event, the British Pro Mods headed the bill in this Round 3 of the MSA British Drag racing Championship. With the Fuel Altereds and the Sportsman classes taking advantage of the good weather conditions there was also great close wheels up competition.
BRITISH PRO MODS
The Pro Mod competition was expected to follow for the top performers to follow on but there were to be a few changes that were not expected by the competitors themselves.
With Andy Robinson sufferring the cost of breakages to achieve his well earned No. 2 position at the Main Event, it was great to see him still setting Top Qualifier in 6.062 seconds, 227 mph.
Kev Slyfield was a surprise No. 2 Qualifier as he found his form we last saw at the National Finals last year in posting a 6.556 sec/213 mph.
Wayne Nicholson was back on form at No. 3 in 6.697 seconds, 210 mph and a new personal best.

Graham Ellis |
When Graham Ellis came out in the mighty Plymouth Superbird he was expecting Personal Best 6.017 second laps, but this Main Event level of performance could not be found and his No. 4 Qualifier at 6.741 seconds, 226mph would mean hard work in the eliminations
No. 5 bump spot Qualifier was an out of form Roger Moore in 7.101 seconds, 201 mph. Moore was hoping to get nearer to his personal best of 6.815 seconds, 205 mph in eliminations.
The Eliminations saw Andy Robinson not holding back on his bye run, setting the marker at 6.076 seconds, 230 mph.
Next pairing saw Kev Slyfield being ultra sharp with a hole shot 0.351 sec advantage over a snoozing Roger Moore who despite a good 6.988 second, 201 mph lost to Slyfield’s 7.202 seconds, 206 mph.
First Round final saw Graham Ellis still struggle to even run a 7.439 seconds, 174 mph but was just ahead of Nicholson’s slower 7.761 seconds, 190 mph
In the Semis, Kev Slyfield took an easy 8.855 seconds, 101mph bye run as Ellis was lucky to go through in 7.267 seconds, 156mph after Andy Robinson had transmission problems.
The final was a major landmark for Kev Slyfield who found his qualifying form to take the win in 6.549 seconds, 212 mph over Graham Ellis in 7.535 seconds, 142mph.
NOSTALGIA FUEL ALTERED
The expected wild rides started on the first day of competition as Joe Bond sideswiped the barrier at speed some 1,000 feet or so but pulled the chutes to regain control to card a creditable 6.964 second, 171 mph, but had not improved on his first round 6.812 second, 196 mph.

Bob Glassup could not improve on his great wheels up 6.954 seconds, 188mph.
The only teams that showed improvement on the final day were Jon Best at 6.693 seconds, 173 mph and Paul Wratton with a great 6.522 second, 210 mph.
SUPER MODIFIED
This round of 7-second doorslammers went to Belinda Bull in 7.490 seconds, 177mph after Andy Hone did not start

PRO ET
Event winner was Paul Baynton’s 383 cu in Capri but the usual wheelie performance from Carla Pittau Heaven & Hell Camaro and Rick McCann’s Heaven & Hell As Well should not be missed.
