Found: Gold Coast Duster Body
Text & Photos by Brad Horvath
The Horvaths found another of Don
Nieves' old funny car bodies when they came across the Gold Coast Duster.
The brothers are looking for the chassis that came with the body.
Brad tells the story: Here is the Gold Coast Duster as found and in my yard after molder Army Armstrong made his plug from the old body..
Near as I can tell, it was Taylor’s Super Duster to begin with. Then it was Don Nieves' Gold Coast Duster and it became the Fools Gold car. Alcohol funny car racer Rick Kraft bought it complete and sold the body. Someone in NY got it next. Then Ken Kull in Ohio. Finally, Army got it and made a plug out of it to build funny car bodies. Fellow nostalgia funny car racer Troy Ray saved it then.
In October 2010, I picked it up to restore. I am looking for the original chassis now, but I could have Pete Miner build a new one from memory. It will be repainted in its last Gold Coast colors. We now have the Gold Coast Duster & Charger.
I saw the Richards Challenger body on the net a while back. I think that would give me all the Gold Coast stuff if I had that one.
