Pirrone & Ellershaw Rock Pinks All Out

And we do mean ALL OUT! The Pirrone and Ellershaw race team descended on Maple Grove Raceway with four cars! We had the K.S. Pittman 33 Willys AA/GS with Mike Hall driving, the Boss Hydro 33 Willys AA/GS and the Screamin Eagle Funny car with me (Rocky) doing double duty! We also had the Big Time Memories there as a back up car to the AA/GS show. Even though we didn't go as fast as I would have liked, I felt we put on a great show for the fans. First up we did a run between the K.S. Pittman 33 and the Boss Hydro 33. The real cool thing about this was we had Mike Hall, Harry Hall's son doing the driving. My Dad and his Dad did some racing back in the 60's and it was neat to have Mike in the car.

After doing some smoky burnouts we did a half dozen dry hops and even a "fake" start. The fans really enjoyed it! At the green Mike pulled a hole shot on me and the Boss went for the sky! After running the Boss, I had to get a "ride" back to the lanes to get in the Screamin Eagle funny car. (I'll save that story till the end!) In our funny car run, we we're pitted against Marie Ferrio and her awesome Thunderstruck Mustang! Both Marie and her car are stunning! Marie's Dad, long time NHRA Division 1 Alky funny car racer Barry Ferrilo does the tuning and this car is FAST!

On the run, we were trying to take advantage of the track and air and tried a lil too hard. We pride ourselves on getting down the track in the six second zone pretty much anywhere, but it didn't happen here. From the hit both cars were pretty much all over the place, Marie was headed to the wall, and did a great job of not hitting it... I played "don't hit the boxes" all the way down the track and managed a disappointing 7.45.  I still think we both did a good job of putting on a show, with Marie doing a real nice burnout. Hopefully, we'll have the Eagle back on track when we head up to Skyview in a couple of weeks...

On the "ride" I mentioned, we had an unfortunate pit accident. Since I was doing double duty driving both the Boss Hydro and Screamin Eagle funny car, we had arranged for one of my crew to go to the end of the track and wait for me to make my run, then I would get a ride back up to drive the funny car (we've done this many times) When we told the track what we were doing, they said due to the large number of people there, that they would have one of their guys waiting for me instead...

So... after I make my pass in the gasser I get out and hop on the back of the track officials pit bike, we go thru the pits at a safe speed (25?). Unfortunately on the way back, a truck pulls out and we T-bone him, since I saw it coming, I had already picked my path of flight which was right over the hood of the truck, I also remembered my dirt bike days of tuck and roll, so I came out pretty much unscathed. Unfortunately the track guy wasn't as lucky, he took the full hit and was banged up pretty bad. He was taken to the hospital and was in the ICU till today. I called the track and they said he was sitting up in bed and doing good, and is expected to make a full recovery.
