Texas Back Half Outlaws: Texas Raceway 4/03/09

Text by Pat Loar

We had 18 cars roll in for this one and they were ready to get their game on! The weather was a little windy and a little chilly but that just made it better for the drivers. Texas Raceway had the track in great shape and was ready for some Outlaw Action to say the least. We split the Big Tire class from the Small Tire class for the first two rounds.

Round 1:

David Haley (W) .212 Newcomer 72 Chevelle

Tony Malone .067 Bad Cat Cougar

Tony started the show out with an awesome wheel stander that left sparks flying from the bumper side dragging the track. But, alas, you lift like that you lose and you break something.

Marc McClaskey (Comp Bye) .266 Outstanding Full Size Chevy Truck

Richie Price (Broke)

Unfortunately Richie never made it to the gate from an issue with the car.

Bruce Morgan (W) .085 Dark Blue 63 Deuce

Mike Jordan .124 Black Stang

Mike’s stang went away on him and Bruce never looked back.

Mike Kelly (Comp bye) 1.34 beautiful two toned stang

Peggy James (Broke) She Devil Camaro

Peggy did the burnout and lost 1st gear.

John Villareal (Bye) .428 Flamed Chevelle

JoJo Melton (W) .069 Black Beast Turbo Camaro

LiL Fernando .035 Baby Fly Luv Truck

LiL Fernando was out of there and the fight was on to the end of the track!

Flip Wilson (W) .107 New ghost flame mustang

Russ Teager (Broke) Fired up Nova

Russ’ planetary gave away on him at the starting line. A little work and he’ll be good to go.

Luis Hildago (W) .146 Newcomer 67 Camaro from Cypress Tx

Shawn Wilholt (L) .287 Awesome 63 Red Chevy II

Shawn was a little slow off the light and Luis was on a pass.

Keith/Clifford (Bye) 68 Nightmare Camaro

This was not a good moment for the Nightmare. Something happened on the other end and parts went everywhere.

Albert Longoria (W) .364 X430 Camaro

Robert Rodriguez (Red) The Joker Camaro

This was the moment everyone had been waiting on….Two great grudge cars matched up against each other. Both drivers were set on kill and Robert jumped the light way too early and Albert was determined to run him down. The dust at the end of the 1/8th mile from the oil down made it appear that someone had run into some trouble on the other end and everyone went running down the track with high anxiety. But, both cars were through it and long gone. Excitement never ends!

Round 2:

JoJo Melton got the bye and cruised on down the track for a soft run.

Luis Hidalgo (Comp Bye) .104

Nightmare was broke from last round and couldn’t make the call.

Albert Longoria (W) .065

Flip Wilson (L) .045

This was an interesting round as in Albert couldn’t get his nitrous bottles filled in time for the race so he took a chance and went ahead and ran Flip with motor only. Flip had nitrous but something happened and the car didn’t perform as well as it could have.

Mike Kelly got the bye and he did a little cruise down the track.

David Haley (W) .156

John Villareal (Red -.075)

The lights told the story on this one.

Marc McClaskey (W) .316

Bruce Morgan (L) .190

This was a heckova race and The Boss almost let a hole shot take him out of the game. Bruce wasn’t giving that Chevy Truck any slack at all.

Round 3:

Marc McClaskey (W) .159

David Haley (L) .331

This was a good race between these two. But, the hole shot made the call on it.

Albert Longoria (W) .394

Mike Kelly (L) .094

Albert appeared to be giving Mike the “hit” on this one and was able to run him down.

JoJo Melton (W) .025

Luis Hidalgo (L) .019

This was a heckova race between these two and you just didn’t know who the winner was until the light told the story.

Semi’s:

Marc McClaskey got the bye and took a cruise down the track.

JoJo Melton (W) .053

Albert Longoria (L) .067

Both were on their game for this one! But the X430 couldn’t catch that Turbo Camaro.

Finals:

JoJo Melton (W) .126

Marc McClaskey (L) .272

This was Marc’s 1st trip to the Finals and he left a little slow but gave it his best to make a good race against JoJo. JoJo moved some to the wall and lifted to keep him and the car safe. Congrats to Melton Motorsports!
