The Story of Sad Sack III
By Tommy McNeely
Some people have asked about Sad Sack III. The ex Z-11 Hayden Proffitt Bel Air was Sad Sack II and the Falcon was Sad Sack IV. Sad Sack III was a Chevy II I bought new off the lot and had built. After seven months, the builder didn't finish the car so we finished it ourselves. It is the car that ended up with Dick Harrell. Afterward, Dick sold it to Jim Kirby. I took the Z-11 motor out of the Bel Air to put in Sad Sack III. Dick wrecked his car and I removed the drivetrain and gave him Sad Sack III. He used it to finish the 65 season. He did quite well with the car and he and Sad Sack III received quite a bit of publicity.
