Memphis to host $100,000 Mid South Bracket Nationals

TRW Motorsports brings close racing action along with piles of cash up for grabs in the inaugural Mid South Bracket Nationals at Memphis Motorsports Park August 14, 15, 16, 2009.

The event, originally scheduled for July 4th weekend was reschedule for August because of the bad weather forecast in the days prior to the original date. TRW Motorsports President Glynn Williford said, “We began watching the forecast that proceeding Saturday and it looked spotty for one day. Over the next 4 days it grew increasingly worse. We knew that with drivers committed to attending from as far away as South Carolina to Texas, they wouldn’t want to tow hour after hour with even a hint of being washed out. As a former driver, I can tell you by firsthand experience that nothing was more frustrating to me as a driver than sitting at the track in the rain. On Wednesday prior to the original date, we made the decision, with the tracks input, to reschedule.”

As fate would have it, the weather turned out nice for that weekend in Memphis. Williford added, “Perhaps someone up above was watching out for everybody!”

Fortunately, with the input of the track and several bracket racing veterans, TRW Motorsports revamped the format of the race to fit the current economic conditions as well as add additional aspects to the race to make it better for the drivers.

The new format features Super Pro AND Footbrake main events every day. Super Pro drivers wanted a race that is affordable from the entry fee standpoint and still pays a big purse. For only $185 per day at the gate and based on a 125 car field, drivers will compete for over $18,000 each day! Drivers can also double enter for a bigger discount that takes the entry fee down to $165 per day.

Footbrake drivers said they wanted in on the fun at the Mid South Bracket Nationals, so organizers included a Footbrake category to the event. Footbrake drivers get their shot at over $3,000 each day!

Capping off the new race are two shootout style events, one on Sunday afternoon featuring a 16 car field paying $5,000 to win. Saturday night’s crown jewel and the feature race of the event is a shootout style matchup with 32 cars vying for over $29,000 in prize money and $20,000 to the winner!

With the August Memphis heat, organizers wanted to make it even more racer friendly by starting later in the day and finishing up under the lights on Friday and Saturday. Williford concluded, “The new night schedule and the revamped format adds something for everyone and we believe the racers will respond in big numbers! The response was overwhelmingly positive when handing out flyers and discussing the race with drivers.”
