Steve Gibbs named to Quarter Mile Foundation Board

Parma Heights, Ohio (May 13, 2010) – Steve Gibbs, the long-time Vice President of Competition of the National Hot Rod Association has accepted a position as a Director on the Board of Directors of the Quarter Mile Foundation, producers of the PROJECT 1320 documentary series about the growth and evolution of drag racing.
According to Traci Hrudka, the foundation’s chairman, the appointment was a natural fit. “Steve Gibbs has been a pioneer of this sport, and has overseen a great share of the growth during his 40-plus year career with the N.H.R.A.,” she said. “And in his self-proclaimed state of ‘semi-retirement,’ he has made significant contributions to the preservation’s of the sport’s history with the oversight of the creation of the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum in Pomona, Calif., to the creation and organizing two of the most successful nostalgia drag racing events – the NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion at Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, Calif. and the NHRA Holley Hot Rod Reunion at Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, Ky.
“He has been an important part of the sport from his early days as a track operator, through his period as the NHRA’s point man at National events, to his passion for the history of the sport, its legends and the cars that made the sport an American institution.”
Steve Gibbs, said, “I am pleased to become a contributing part of the PROJECT 1320 effort. I have seen the unwavering dedication of the people who have undertaken this noteworthy program to provide an entertaining and educational overview of how this truly American sport (and industry) came to be and why it grew.
“I have been privileged to have been a part of the growth of drag racing through my life. The involvement with the Foundation’s effort to tell its’ history through the voices and words of the surviving legends and pioneers is something which I feel is very important, and must be done.”
