The History of NHRA Pro Stock book now available

From the wild Super Stock and A/FX cars of the 1960s through the factory hot rods of today, NHRA Drag Racing’s Pro Stock category has always been known as a “driver’s class,” complex at times but always packed with performance and thrilling to watch. Now, straight from the legendary photo files of NHRA and National DRAGSTER, the National Hot Rod Association presents The History of NHRA Pro Stock, the third in a collection of specialty photo books aimed at the NHRA Drag Racing fan.

No collection of a true student of the sport will be complete without The History of NHRA Pro Stock. From the achievements of pioneers such as Bill “Grumpy” Jenkins and the famed Sox & Martin through season after season of utter domination by Bob Glidden to today’s six-second, 210-mph factory hot rods, The History of NHRA Pro Stock guides readers through the years of milestones, groundbreaking technology, and career turning points in this fascinating segment of NHRA competition. The book contains 240 historical photographs.

“What makes Pro Stock unique among the NHRA Professional racing categories is that its primary appeal comes not from the flame and thunder of nitromethane, but rather its direct connection with fans, who tend to root for the same manufacturer’s brand that they or someone they know drives on the street,” says author John Jodauga, who began covering the NHRA Pro Stock beat for National DRAGSTER magazine at the inception of the class in 1970.

Beginning March 18, NHRA fans can order The History of NHRA Pro Stock, an 86-page volume available in softcover or hardcover, exclusively online through Lulu.com, a leading online seller of print-on-demand books. The softcover price is $26.95, and the hardcover price is $39.95. A portion of the proceeds will benefit NHRA in the Community charities. To order a copy of The History of NHRA Pro Stock or any of NHRA’s specialty books, visit NHRA’s Lulu.com storefront at www.NHRA.com/books. Lulu.com accepts online orders only. Phone or mail order is not available.

The History of NHRA Pro Stock joins a growing library of books from NHRA Publications. The first release, a biography of late NHRA founder Wally Parks published summer 2008, zoomed right into the top 25 of Lulu.com’s biography sellers and into the top 800 of the tens of thousands of books for sale at the popular site. The second, NHRA Drag Racing Photo Greats Volume 1: Wild Rides, was released last month and continues to climb the sales charts.
