Wayman, Gordon Tops at Top Gun
FALLON, Nev. (June 14, 2009) – Kevin Wayman and Doug Gordon each took home big wins this weekend at the NHRA Pacific Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Top Gun Raceway part the week long Octane Fest in Fallon, Nev.
Wayman, South Jordan, Utah, took his No. 1 qualifying efforts in straight to the winner’s circle in Top Alcohol Dragster knocking out Dennis Swearingen, Rolling Hills Estates, Calif., in the final and fellow Utah, racer Jaren Mott of Salt Lake City in his semifinal match up. Wayman recorded a lap of 5.540 seconds at 256.84 mph in the final.
Gordon, Paso Robles, Calif., put a stop to Sean O’Bannon’s NHRA Pacific Division Top Alcohol Funny Car win streak with a starting line advantage to go along with his 5.967 second, 247.12 mph pass. O’Bannon, Ontario, Calif., had a quicker run at 5.930 second, 244.55 mph but could not catch Gordon in the quarter mile.
Comp Eliminator turned out to be a fight for Glendale, Ariz., bragging rights as No. 1 qualifier Mike DePalma held off No. 2 qualifier Dean Carter. Both racers make their home in Glendale.
Gary Forkner finally broke into the winner’s circle with a win to go along with his two runner-up finishes this year. Forkner, Temecula, Calif., got the win over J. Wayne Silvia, Upland Calif., in Top Sportsman with his ’06 GTO.
Boulder City, Nev., racer Jon Irving defeated Jim Durham, Stonyford, Calif., in the Stock Eliminator final while Super Stock runner Brian Weber, Mesa, Ariz., captured the win over Tibor Kadar, Peoria, Ariz., in his ’86 Camaro
Joining the rest of the winners this weekend were Glenn Kern, Modesto, Calif., in Super Comp over Bill Botelho, Smith, Nev.; Kent Boehner, Greeley, Colo., in his ’02 Corvette Super Gas entry; Livermore, Calif., resident David Adams beating Matt Blodgett, Signal Hill, Calif., in Super Street; Terry White of Half Moon Bay, Calif., in the Hughes Performance Top Dragster class; and Jay Matthews, Henderson, Nev., in Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley Davidson .
This weekend’s event marks the 4th event in the Pacific Division as racers head to Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, July 31-Aug. 2
