Brinkeroff Earns First TOPMA Win

The Texas Outlaw Pro Mod Association rolled into Texas Raceway in Kennedale,TX for its July race with fourteen cars trying to get into the eight car field. Qualifying started off with a heat index of 105 and track temperature’s that matched as well and ended with a air temperature of 84 when the race was called because of curfew. Frankie Taylor debuted his new Jeffers Pro Cars built Corvette with a departure from his normal bright colorful paint scheme to solid black paint scheme, something about saving weight.
Two wild qualifying sessions that saw a fuel fire from Chuck Nuytten, Chuck and his car are ok. Ken Thomas had a small fire on top end and a clutch explosion but was able to get it repaired. Gene Hector and Doug Riesterer were not able to make the first round call do to breakage, allowing Eric Clark and Michelle Wilson to get into the eight car field. The race was called because we hit the 12:00am curfew time when two oil spills that occurred at 11:30 in test n tune and could not get cleaned up in time but a valiant effort was put forth by the TXR track crew to clean it up.

Finals
Gaylen Smith & Jim Brinkerhoff did not get to run their final at Texas Raceway Friday night due to the curfew because of two oildowns. The pair faced off the next night at North Star Dragway in the second round of qualifying for Saturday night's race. Jim Brinkeroff scored the upset when Gaylen Smith had to get off the throttle. Congrats go out to Brinkerhoff and the Orange Crush gang.
