Force Team Saves Best for Last, Steals the Show During Saturday Testing at 2010 NAPA Auto Parts National Time Trials
GILA RIVER INDIAN COMMUNITY – Jan. 22, 2010 — Near the end of a chilly Saturday testing session during the 2010 NAPA Auto Parts National Times, a drag racing legend and the rest of his team decided to steal the show and delight the remaining Firebird International Raceway crowd.
While others professionals were content to shut down their runs following 60 foot passes, John Force opted to give the remaining fans a show. Force also shut down early, but not before torching Firebird’s track for a speed of 264.96 MPH at the 660 foot mark.
But that was just the appetizer. Teammate and defending Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Funny Car champ Robert Hight decided he would upstage him. Hight turned in a full run in the Firebird International Raceway Twilight, turning in a speed of 302.21 mph and a time of 4.11.5.
That didn’t end the fireworks. There was one Force team member left to go!
Ashley Force Hood decided not to let her teammate steal the show, nor record the day’s best run! In a classic example of one upmanship, Force Hood topped High by the slimmest of margins, recording a 302.25 and a time of 4:113.
“Today went really smoothly – more smoothly than any first day of testing I remember….,” Force Hood said.
Talk about saving the best for last!
Prior to the Force team’s dramatic finish, Bob Tasca III had recoded the day’s two top Funny Car partial passes, recording a .901seconds at 60 feet in his first run, and a .910 at 60 feet in his second.
Troy Buff turned in the best partial run in the Top Fuel category, recording a .841 at the 60 foot mark, topping Doug Foley turned in the top partial run in the Top Fuel category, recording an 8.44 and Brandon Bernstein at .866.
