Texas Back Half Outlaws: Texas Raceway, June

Text by Summer

On Friday Night at Texas Raceway, 26 Back Half Outlaws rolled in for a whole new game of racing! Texas Raceway let us try something new and split the 4 second cars from the 5 second cars. The driver's were more ready for this than anyone!

5 Sec. Class (5.00 index)

Round 1:

Flip Wilson (Comp. Bye) .121 Blue Stang
Rex Cantrell (Broke) Purple Camaro

Don't know what happened here but Rex never made it to the starting line and pulled out of the staging lane. So, that sent Flip on down with a bye.

Gerald Bennett (W) .048 Play too Much Nova
Peggy James (L) .108 She Devil Camaro

Gerald was out of there 1st and Peggy had a little sashaying going on at about the 330 sending her to the trailer. It's good to see Peggy back in the seat after just having some medical issues not too long ago! Glad to have her here with us!

Mike Graham (W) .020 Beautiful 3 Tone 67 Camaro
Derek Lewis (L) .089 Great Looking 70 Red Nova

Mike got Derek on the tree, but, I can tell you Derek wasn't giving up easily at the end with a 122mph to a 123!

Carl Flowers (W) .339 Blown 55 Chevy
Marc McClaskey (L) .330 White/Orange Full Size Chevy Truck

Not sure what either one of them were waiting on, but, I can tell you Carl wasn't sticking around to find out. 126.58 to a 126.87!

Big Will Allen (W) .037 Clean Red 68 Camaro
Greg Green (L) -.005 Nice 67 Deuce

Greg rocked us with this one. We know he can be quick on the tree, but, we just weren't expecting him to chop it down.

Russ Teager (W) .169 Fired up Nova
Chuck Clague (Foul) Awesome S-15 Truck

Chuck was new to the race and he got a 'little' excited and jumped the tree and gave this race to Russ.

LiL Fernando (W) .047 Baby Fly Luv Truck
Butch Johnson (L) .123 Gray 55 Chevy

Don't know where Butch's mind was but it wasn't on his normal game! He couldn't catch a "Fly"!

Mike Jordan (W) .201 DJ 88 Mustang
Blake McBride (Foul) -.124 Gorgeous Orange 69 Camaro

Mike seemed to stage and then move and it let Blake move too soon for the loss.

John Sheffield (W) .043 Black Turbo Stang
Richie Price (L) .064 Blue Camaro

Now this race was as Bad as it gets! Richie was having to make up on the tree with horsepower on the other end but just couldn't stop John.

Tony Thorn (Bye) .076 Great 69 Green Camaro
Tony went on for a nice little test pass.

Fastest car of that round ran 142.40, Quickest RT of that round was .020!

Round 2:

Tony Thorn (W) .141
Flip Wilson (L) .084

Flip was out of there 1st but he just couldn't hold off that fast coming Camaro!

LiL Fernando (W) .082
Carl Flowers (L) .061

Carl had the better light on this one, but, Lil Fernando "flew" past him and never looked back.

Big Will (W) .141
Mike Jordan (L) .195

Once Will was off and out Mike never could catch that Camaro.

Gerald Bennett (W) .136
Mike Graham (Foul) -.002

I believe Mike was trying to compete with Greg on the best foul, but, Gerald got out there and then something broke on the car bringing it to a stop on the track. He Would not be able to return to make the next round.

John Sheffield (Comp Bye) .225
Russ Teager (Broke)

John took her on a test run as Russ could not make the call.

Fastest car of that round was 141.94, quickest RT was .061.

Semi's:

John Sheffield (W) .042
Big Will Allen (L) .094

A lot of muscle went into this race with a 138.88 to a 138.40! Chevy couldn't beat the Ford this time around. And this was a RACE too!

LiL Fernando (W) .017
Tony Thorn (L) .093

These two meet again with the last race being a different outcome. LiL Fernando was not about to let that happen twice and this was a heckova race too! Just not enough real estate for Tony to catch him. Margin of victory was 9/100ths.

Fastest car this round was 138.88 and quickest RT was .017!

Finals:

John Sheffield (W) .037
LiL Fernando (L) .027

Both of these guys were on their game! That Ford just couldn't be stopped tonight. This put John back in the winner's circle once again since last season.

Congrats to John and Crew on your win and LiL Fernando and crew on your R/U! Thanks for trying out the new 5.0 True Outlaw Class.

4 Second Class: (4.65 index)

Round 1:

JoJo Melton (W) .049 DaBeast Camaro
Gaylen Smith (L) .021 Checkerboard Camaro

This was a nice match up but even though Gaylen had the better light he just couldnt keep that turbo Camaro from running past him.

Fred Lee (W) .022 The All New Deep Red Westside Camaro
Luis Hidalgo (L) .012 Deep Wine Color Camaro

Luis cut a light on Fred but before he could get to the stripe something happened to the car and it went away on him and Fred was right there to take the Win!

Raymond Longoria (W) .171 The one and only X430
Albert Longoria (Broke) The one and only Joker

This was to be another match up for Brother vs. Brother, but, something went wrong at the tree and the Joker shot flames out from under the hood. Fire was put out and the Joker cruised on down the track and back to the trailer.

Chris Shortridge (Bye) .054 Beautiful 3 Tone 02 Camaro
Shortridge took a little trip down the track for a short test.

Fastest car that round went 152.24 and quickest RT was .012.

Semi's:

JoJo Melton (W) .043
Fred Lee (L) .014

This was a great match race between these two. Fred was out and gone on JoJo but he just couldn't keep him from passing him for the Win.

Chris Shortridge (W) .054
Raymond Longoria (L) .854

Something happened here and the X430 fell down on the hit and then ran like he was trying to catch the devil himself!

Fastest car this round was 152.02 and quickest RT was .014.

Finals:

Chris Shortridge (W) .044 4.520 164.43
JoJo Melton (L) .019 4.601 160.48

This was an exciting race for everyone! Turbo vs. Turbo. Both driver's made an agreement to lift the 4.65 index and run true Outlaw heads up and to everyone's suprise they showed their times. This had everyone jumping in the stands and on the track! They made the finals one of the best for the season!

Congrats to Shortridge Racing on your win and Melton Motorsports on your R/U!
Both are equally great competitors!

We want to thank Texas Raceway and Staff for the great night of all new Outlaw racing! Thanks for giving us a new start. This is why Texas Raceway will always be Texas Back Half Outlaws home track.

Thanks to all the drivers and car owner's that came out and gave it a shot and made it as successful as it was for a Heckova Show!

We want to thank Harry's Hot Rod Shop and www.golfcarsforfun.net for your continued support. I personally want to thank Shan Morgan for all your help and advice and support you have given me.

Special thanks to my brother Elroy (who drove in from west Texas to help out), Kacie, Ashley and Nikki for all your help! I could NOT have done it without all of you. You are what it takes to make a great team. Thanks to Nancy Matter for coming out to help with the pics.

Until next time.....C Ya At Tha Races

Gaylen and Summer, TBHO
