Texas Back Half Outlaws at North Star Dragway

Text by Summer

The winner; Micheal Hollis

The weather turned out nice and hot and so were the 14 teams that rode in to see who could put a new Winner in the circle at Northstar Dragstrip in Denton. And that they did too! The track was just as ready for them with one of the best strips to run on as could ever be.

We made two separate classes for the 1st rd of eliminations and had a 4.70 index.

Round 1:

Carl Flowers (W) .202 132.82 Red & White 55 Chevy
Steve Press (L) .003 Awesome Dark Blue Chevelle

Steve had a killer light on the tree and blew the tires off at the hit and the 55 Boys just never looked back.

Flip Wilson (W) .030 111.94 Beautiful Blue Flamed Stang
Mike Kelley (L) .172 132.86 Gorgeous new turbo stang

Flip and Mike both came out with new combos and didn't know what to expect out of either one. We all didn't expect Flip to drop his laundry at 1/2 track and still get a win!

Brandon Blair (W) .069 131.35 Blue Beast Camaro
John Sheffield (DQ) .355 154.37 Awesome performing black Stang

John deep staged and it cost him time coming out of the hole and he attempted to run Brandon down and did a dang good job of it too! So, good it cost him the race due to breaking out of the index! Great Run John, just wrong race for it.

We do NOT have a rule against deep staging...they take their own chance with that.

Mike Graham (BYE) .002 130.13 Beautiful Deep Blue Camaro
I was impressed with an .003 light and by gosh Mike beat that! Good light Mike!

Spencer Johnson (W) .026 138.76 Good Looking Burnt Orange Camaro
Mike Jordan (L) .149 92.86 Clean Black Nova

Spencer was out and gone and Mike just couldn't catch that Camaro!

David Haley (W) .274 122.45 Great Fun Black Chevelle
Bob "Hell Yeah" Cooley .126 Entertaining Black 280Z

Hell Yeah was out on David and then it got really off paced from there and his car just went away on him. Something just wasn't right and it ended up a motor pass.

Michael Hollis (W) .082 139.49 Unc's hard charging Yellow Camaro
David Kennedy (L) .188 Beautiful Blue Chevelle

This was David's first run with us with us and he found that you can't sit still with Michael at the wheel. Thanks David for joining us for this race.

Blake McBride (Bye) .291 115.98 Beautiful Fire Orange Camaro

There was a 15th car trying to make it to the staging lanes but did not make it in time for the call, so, it put Blake to the next round. Thanks for trying #814!

The runner-up: Blake McBride

Round 2:

We combined the classes in this round to eliminate any Bye runs.

Spencer Johnson (W) .034 138.97
Carl Flowers (L) .067 131.73

This race was as Nasty as they get! It was a battle all the way to the finish line!

Michael Hollis (W) .084 4 140.63
Flip Wilson (L) .084 9 137.78

This was unbelievable at the hit of the throttle and this time Flip kept his laundry on but was having some problems with his new combo .

Brandon Blair (W) .036 131.20
David Haley (L) .045 123.12

Brandon was out on David but David was right on his tail to the very end!

Blake McBride (W) .062 133.49
Mike Graham (L) .019 134.89

Mike threw down one of his infamous lights on Blake but Blake battled him to the very end to win by a door!

Round 3:

Michael Hollis (W) .071 140.93
Spencer Johnson (L) .022 138.97

Spencer was out on Michael but he just couldn't keep that Yellow Camaro from going around him for the win! Good Race Guys!!!!

Blake McBride (W) .099 133.41
Brandon Blair (L) .085 130.85

Sometimes it comes down to two team members but they were not about to give each other any slack. This was a slug fest all the way to the finish line!

Finals:

Michael Hollis .074 140.58
Blake McBride .098 134.05

Congrats goes to Unc/Michael Hollis and Team on your Win and congrats to Blake McBride and Blair Racing Team on your R/U! This race was truely another exciting race between these two. Thanks to Unc for bringing your car back out to run with us and thanks to Blake for taking a chance on the track. I can always say that if Larry is at a track prepping it that track is going to be the best in Texas! Even though there was a total oil down before we ran the finals that track was back up in under 45 minutes and the oil down lane was so good that Blake shook all the way down it!

We want to thank Northstar for all your work and making it a great evening of racing, all the teams who came out to race and have a great time, and to the fans that decided that back half racing was the thing to do in spite of a national event going on. I personally want to thank Kacie Loar and Jeff Arnold for all your work making this race a success and run as smoothly as it did. Thanks to Jennifer and Barrett www.660photos.com for shooting the event for us. Thanks to www.golfcarsforfun.net . Thanks for the use of your photos Chris @ www.maxcacklephotos.com . Thanks to www.draglist.com .

Our last race of the season is Oct. 2nd at Texas Raceway.
