Texas Back Half Outlaws at Texas Raceway 9/04/09
Text by Summer ~ Photos by 660 Photos
Labor Day Weekend and some people went on trips and others came to race and to watch! Sometimes there is more fun right around the corner from your house. We had 14 teams come out to get their RACE on Friday night.
Round 1:
5.30 Class
 |
Ralph Starling took the RU spot tonight in his El Camino. |
Spencer Johnson (W) RT .177 Beautiful 68 Camaro
Jon King (F) Awesome 93 Mustang
They lined up and took the tree and Jon rolled before the tree activated and this fouled him and put Spencer on down the track. Something was wrong with Spencer's car and it just wasn't performing right. This was Jon's first race in forever so I am sure he will be ready for the mustang next time!
Ralph Starling (W) .038 131.57 Full size 78 El Camino
Greg Green (L) .052 129.82 SBC II
Now Ralph and Greg were an awesome heads up match here! Ralph got Greg on the tree and Greg was spanking on his back bumper all the way to the finish line. We had to check to see if this was a "true" win..... Ralph was 5/1000's away from the index!
Mike Millsap (W) .181 127.93 Great Orange Mustang
Richard Piper (L) .152 123.24 Awesome Blue Nova
Both Mike and Richard were 1st times out with us this year and this was a tuff little race between them.
Derek Lewis (W) .089 120.94 Candy Red 70 Nova
Charles Letteer (L) .250 77.48 Good Looking 89 Mustang
Both Derek and Charles were doing some testing with their cars and Charles' mustang just wasn't ready to go down the track. Track just wasn't there for him.
Lil Fernando Ayala (W) .067 93.51 "Baby Fly" Luv Truck
Keith Williams (L) .122 90.59 Beautiful Red Full Size El Camino
You can't sit still at the light with that Baby Fly in the lane next to you and then have the horsepower overload the track. All you can do then is wave bye bye.
Round 2:
Mike Millsap (W) .248 128.13
Derek Lewis (L) .081
This was the longest wheelstand I believe I have ever seen! And it was Derek who hooked up at the line and he rode a bumper standing wheelie with sparks flying for what seemed like forever! When the car started turning towards the right lane it appeared that the wild standing Chevy was going to eat the little Ford. Mike was able to get out of the way on go on to the finish line. Derek if that is the "small" pill what happens with a "big" one. Never mind I don't think I want to know. But, we are appreciative that you were not hurt and were able to control the wild beast when it landed.
Ralph Starling (Bye) He took a little cruise down the track.
Lil Fernando (Comp bye) He took a little cruise down the track also.
Spencer Johnson was hurt in the last round and was unable to make the call.
Semi's:
Ralph Starling (W) .067 114.67
Mike Millsap (L) .103 129.02
Ralph was out on Mike and just never looked back.
Lil Fernando (Bye)
Finals:
 |
Lil Fernado Ayala won the 5.30 class in the killer LUV. |
Lil Fernando Ayala .051 126.07
Ralph Starling .048 129.18
His first win this season goes to Lil Fernando "Spanish Fly" Ayala! Congrats to you and your crew on your Win! Congrats to Ralph and your crew on your R/U. This was a race to be reckoned with! The light at the other end was the only way we knew who the winner was! A well matched race.
Round 1/Semi's
4.80 Class
 |
Alfred "Snake" Sneed was the runner up in his Camaro. |
Al "Snake" Sneed (W) .141 146.18 Turbo 68 Camaro
Mike Jordan (L) .196 87.33 Black 72 Nova
Snake made his debut with us for this race and Mike Jordan suprised us by coming out with a Chevy instead of his usual Stang.
JoJo Melton (W) .095 154.72 Da Beast Turbo Camaro
John Sheffield (L) .123 149.91 Turbo 88 Mustang
This was the race that all eyes were on tonight! Turbo vs Turbo! John was off paced on the tree but they were still a fender's difference on the other end!
I believe the whole crowd was holding their breath on this one!
Final:
 |
JoJo Melton's charmed year continues with another win in his turbo Camaro |
JoJo Melton
Al "Snake" Sneed
I didn't end up with the results here, but, JoJo was on down the track for the win and Snake was trying to tame that turbo and track combination.
Congrats to JoJo and crew on your win and congrats to Big Al and crew on your R/U !
