Texas Back Half Outlaws at Texas Raceway

Text by Summer ~ Photos by Chris Graves

We  had 12 teams roll in for the split class on what turned out to be a beautiful day in spite of the storms that came through this morning. This was a double points race and some of them were not letting that slip by them.

5.30 Class

Bob Cooley won the 5.30 class.

Round 1

Bob Cooley (W) .060 126.97 77 Black 280Z
Ralph Starling (F)-.149 130.73 White El Camino
Ralph got a little excited on the tree and took off early and Bob chased him all the way to the finish line. Now Bob is the infamous Hell Yeah and this was his 1
st race with us. He does make a race exciting and fun with his enthusiasm. Glad to have you running with us.

Greg Green (W) .081 120.94 Small Block Chevy II
Mike Jordan (L) .202 116.77 Black 88 Stang
Greg was off the tree and gone and Mike was off paced on this race.

Keith Williams (W) .119 111.21 Nice Wine colored 78 El Camino
Lil Fernando Ayala (L) .047 115.40 Baby Fly Luv Truck
Keith was just a little slow off the tree but gave a good run with the Baby Fly with the horsepower, but the Baby Fly broke out of the index by 8/100ths to give the win to Keith.

Alan Durbin (W) .174 122.12 Beautiful 3 tone 67 Camaro
Derek Lewis (L) .099 129.45 Sweet Candy Red 70 Camaro
Derek treed Alan but it was not enough to keep that hard charging camaro from passing him for the win.

Semi's

Bob Cooley (W) .038 130.14
Greg Green (L) .075 129.52
Now this was the tightest race of the evening. Bob got the light on Greg and it was a run for the money between them allllll the way to the end. The only way we could tell who won was that ever telling light at the end. Good Race Guys!
And to let you know: Bob has his work done on his car at Hot Rods by Green. So, Greg has done an awesome job on this car and has it running great!
The margin of victory between them was the paint color!

Alan Durbin (W) .074 118.78
Keith Williams (L) .095 125.26
Alan left a little ahead of Keith and the horsepower just couldn't catch that Camaro.

Finals

Bob Cooley (W) .056 130.54
Alan Durbin (L) .082 126.12
Now this was a heckova race between these two! Alan pushed just a little too much to try and run that quick little moving Z car down to break out of the indexby 7/100ths.

Congrats goes to Bob Cooley AKA Hell Yeah and Team on his first class Race in his 280Z! Congrats to Alan Durbin on his 1st R/U position this Season! Good Racing Guys!

4.75 Class

Wiining another race was JoJo Melton in his turbo Camaro.

Round 1

JoJo Melton (W) .060 153.75 Da Beast 68 Camaro
Charles Letteer (L) .029 133.37 Red 89 Mustang
JoJo was running his small tire and even though Charles treed him it took to the very end for JoJo to pass Charles for the win. Charles has a few suprises with this Stang and this was his 1st ever passes on this new combination. This was a beautifully matched race. Good job guys!

John Sheffield (W) .009 158.43 Black Turbo Stang
Richie Price (L) .390 118.51 Awesome Blue 68 Camaro
Richie was way off his game with this tree and there was no catching John!

Finals

JoJo Melton (W) .044 152.61
John Sheffield (L) .015 150.97
It finally came down to Turbo vs Turbo and John did his usual on the tree and JoJo was on the chase and John doubted himself on the index and let off at the end and JoJo passed him for the Win. Never doubt yourself a 4.75 index is harder to hit than you believe.

Congrats to Melton Motorsports on your Win and Congrats to John Sheffield and Team on your R/U! This was an awesome race that can be named a Turbo War.

Also as a note: we had a sponsor for the longest burnout from
http://fatdaddysperformance.com/index.aspx  for $100 gift certificate and Ralph Starling took that honor with a FULL 1/8th mile burnout! Congrats to Ralph! We had a sponsor for the Quickest Reaction Time from Clark Bros. Paint and Body for $100 cash that went to John Sheffield with his .009 ! Congrats John. We want to thank Texas Raceway and Staff for all your work to make this race a success! We want to thank all the Teams that showed up for your support of this class! I want to thank Kacie Loar for your help running the show. We thank Jerry Gossett with Fat Daddy's Performance Shop in Rowlett , Clark Bros. Paint and Body of Arlington, Golf Cars for Fun, and Harry's Hot Rod Shop for you support.

C Ya At Tha Races,
Summer
