Woodburn Fire & Thunder Results

WOODBURN DRAGSTRIP (June 13) - The 35th Annual BI-MART• KGON-FM Fire & Thunder lived up to all
expectations as Darrin Bay blasted his jet dragster through the traps at
303 and 305 miles per hour on successive runs. Barry Richter in another jet dragster was right along side at 5.4 seconds and 287 mph. Joey Severance led all Top Alcohol Dragsters with a 5.394 at 264 mph followed by Bill Edwards (5.71) and Gregg Lawrence (5.78). Larry Miner led the Top Alcohol Funny Cars with a 5.76 with Jeff Ashwell (5.84), David Germain (5.94), and James Peters (5.98) in close succession. Miner (5.741) topped Edwards(5.924) in the finals of the two Top Alcohol classes. Greg Howland earned the Nostalgia Alcohol Funny Car win with a hole shot over Kim Parker. Paul New was victorious over Ron Jackson as the front engine dragster defeated the ’48 Fiat in Pro Nostalgia.
Jeremy McGhee scored a .019 package to down Paul Nero in the finals of Top Comp. Both drivers left with identical .019 reaction times, and McGhee hit his dial-in to the thousandths in the victory. Gene Heaton and Roberta Van Scoyk earned victories in Super Gas and Super Street, respectively. Tim Ellis met and defeated Norm Webber for the second time in the finals of Stock/Super Stock Combo while NW Dragbike winners were Doug Newberg, Kerry Drost, and Larry Cook. Sunoco Race Fuels Championship Series winners were Dennis Weddle, Nicholas Shepherd, Dave Fowler, and Nick Puhl. Nicholas Shepherd was as “hot” as a racer could be with a victory and a semi-final finish in the gamblers’ races on Saturday combined with the victory on Sunday which gave him a $1300 smile.
