All the "Occupy Wall Street" and new wave of anti-corporate demonstrations got me to thinking... With all the complaining we see from a minority of geezers on the internet, whining about NHRA, why don't they (all 5 of 'em) organize an "Occupy Glendora" demonstration and take their grievances to NHRA's door (ha ha)... I know that would NEVER happen in a million years, as it darn well shouldn't, but I have a little fun playing with the idea in today's blog-- And I attempt to show everyone that when it comes to NHRA and Nostalgia themed drag racing, the current climate is actually pretty good, and we should be thankful for it... "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...

Today's blog...OCCUPY WALL STREET??... WHEN WILL WE SEE NOSTALGIA WHINERS OCCUPY GLENDORA??... HA HA...

Nostalgia Drag Racing is in much better shape than some folks claim it is...

The tragic passing of two time Indy 500 champ Dan Wheldon has many of us in the motorsports community upset... I recall the experience of meeting another "two time Indy 500 champion", Emerson Fittipaldi, and how that experience is helping me cope with the loss of Dan Wheldon... I discuss the kind of exceptional racers and men that Dan Wheldon and Emerson Fittipaldi are, and why I believe that racing is in their blood, as well as in their life's destiny... I also firmly believe it's important for racers from differing genres of motorsport to have a mutual respect for each other... I discuss in today's Drag Racing Underground blog installment... "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...

Today's blog... A PRIOR MEETING WITH ANOTHER "TWO TIME INDY 500 CHAMP" HELPS PUT THINGS IN PROPER PERSPECTIVE FOR ME...

The loss of Indy champ Dan Wheldon got me to thinking about the issue of mutual respect among racers of different motorsport genres... I reflect on a meeting I had several years ago, at a Wall Street/NY Stock Exchange press gathering, where NHRA drag racing superstar John "Brute" Force and NASCAR legend Darrell "Boogity, Boogity, Boogity" Waltrip were both in attendance... I was impressed by the way those two giants of motorsports showed each other a genuine sense of mutual respect... I elaborate further in today's Drag Racing Underground blog installment... "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...

Today's blog... JOHN FORCE AND DARRELL "BOOGITY, BOOGITY, BOOGITY" WALTRIP HAVE THE MUTUAL RESPECT FOR EACH OTHER THAT I'VE BEEN TALKIN' 'BOUT...

Ashley's dad knows the importance of mutual respect among drivers of different motorsports genres, and I'm sure he's instated that valuable quality in her racing psyche...

Today is "International John Peel Day"... Who is John Peel?... John Peel was a DJ from England, who actually got his start working in Texas, that's where he got the whole Beatles thing going on in this country... He then want back home to the U.K., and was heard on BBC-1 radio... That is where he broke Zeppelin, Stones, T-Rex, The Kinks, The Fall, and a whole bunch of other great artists... And geez, subsequently, when Big Stick released our first "Drag Racing" record, it would be John Peel who "miraculously" ('cause it was kind of a "miracle" for my life) started playing it with frequency on his show... He also played lots of our different songs and releases over the years... H*ck, he even played "Broadcast Booth" with some regularity, and those of you who know that record are aware that there isn't even any music on it!!-- It's kind of like the "War of the Worlds" version of a drag racing record, it's all talk and sound effects (mainly the sounds of the cars)-- So hey, this John Peel fellow gets lots of love from me in today's blog...

Today's blog... TODAY IS INTERNATIONAL JOHN PEEL DAY... PAYING RESPECT TO THE BOLD & BRILLIANT DJ WHO DID SO MUCH FOR BIG STICK & SO MANY OTHERS...

The more I think about it...

... the more I appreciate what John Peel did for me, and for the rock 'n' roll world as we know it...

Well, it's that time of year again, you know what I'm talking about, it's the 2nd biggest of our great nation's traditional holidays, yes, my dear friends, it's Halloween season... My buddy, Fred Schneider of the B-52s has a side project band called THE SUPERIONS... As some of you know, Fred has recorded with yours truly and my BIG STICK music thing, Fred sang soulful guest vocals on our HOT SAUCE track, that we're currently mixing and readying for release... Fred Schneider and his bandmates lean towards the lighter side of life, they previously did a Christmas record that's up for a Grammy in the comedy genre... The name of THE SUPERIONS' Halloween spirited track is "BATBABY", I discuss on my blog and provide the link to the YouTube video... Funny AND somewhat eerie wrapped all together in a scary synth styled Halloween sandwich... "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...

Today's blog... JUST IN TIME FOR HALLOWEEN... THE SUPERIONS (FEATURING FRED SCHNEIDER OF THE B-52s) WITH THEIR "BATBABY" VIDEO...

The two biggest news items in America this week are undeniably Chaz Bono's angry outburst on ABC-TV's Dancing With The Stars, AND the National Basketball Association's (NBA) ongoing players strike... In today's blog I concern myself with the NBA strike, and how that story is absolutely, completely dominating the news in the world of American sports... What would happen if NHRA and its racers pulled a similar move??-- Would the mainstream sports reporters give us even a fraction of the coverage they're dedicating to this ongoing NBA fiasco??--- Uh, my guess is NO WAY-- We might get a blurb in the back of the newspaper sports pages, maybe a tiny blurb, if we're lucky, but not much more than that-- And THAT's kind of disturbing to me--- I discuss in today's blog installment... "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...

Today's blog... WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF THE NHRA AND ITS RACERS DID THE SAME THING AS THE NBA AND ITS PLAYERS??...

My regular readers are well aware of my deep respect and admiration for Dave Hance... There's a photo I posted of yours truly interviewing Dave located at the top of this page... He's an accomplished racer, the most stand-up of all independent promoters this world has ever seen (SHAKEDOWN AT E-'TOWN!!), and to top it all off, Dave is one of the nicest of gentlemen that I've ever encountered at the drags, bar none-- He's the very best this sport has to offer-- A true class act!!... So, you can imagine how happy I am for Dave and his team to hear they recently recorded a "career best" performance while testing with their NY Motorsports twin-turbo '57 Chevy Pro Mod at Maryland International Raceway... I discuss Dave Hance and his torrid "career best" time slip from MIR with today's blog installment at Drag Racing Underground... "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...

It's no secret that the sport of drag racing is definitely lacking in Halloween tales... Folks have been pestering me to find at least one good drag racing related Halloween story to share on my blog... Well, after much research, I finally found one... Please be advised, it's not a story for the faint of heart... It's the tale of "Gooseface Gunzo", his back-up girl sidekick "Gooseface Gloria", and their most unfortunate drive after an unsuccessful day at the drags... "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...

Today's blog is titled "YOU CAN'T KEEP A GOOD MAN DOWN"... No, today's blog isn't about the courage and resilience that Chaz Bono demonstrated after being eliminated off ABC-TV's DANCING WITH THE STARS program... Today's blog is about an old drag racing friend of mine who is triumphantly returning to the driver's seat after a temporary hiatus... We go way back together, back to the old Top Sportsman/Pro Mod days, back in the late 1980s... He has an impressive list of racing accomplishments, both in doorslammers and fuel floppers-- And now he's back, at the wheel of a Top Fueler... "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...

Today Chevrolet is celebrating its 100th anniversary... Even this gal with three muscled-up Fords in her garage shares some love and admiration for the bowtie brigade's 100th birthday... I recognize the accomplishments of Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins, Bruce "USA-1" Larson, and my local friends and heroes, the "Hemi Hunter" gang, among other Chevy drag racing stars... And being that I'm never one to mince words, or whitewash a story, yeah, I'm known for being the one who speaks the God Honest Truth, well, that's just what I do in today's blog regarding the sensitive subject of Chevrolet's future as a major American automobile manufacturer... "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...
