It's no secret that the MOPARS @ E'TOWN event has always been one of my favorite shindigs on the Old Bridge Township Raceway Park calendar... I have fond memories of hanging with WFMU-FM radio personality "WILDGIRL", back when she used to race her Dodge "Swinger"-- And more recently, hanging out at the event with our friend Johnny Kelly (of TYPE O NEGATIVE, DANZIG fame), sometimes Johnny brings his sweet '70 SuperBee to race-- And as some of you know, Johnny Kelly recorded guest drum tracks on our (BIG STICK's) upcoming record release-- Yeah, the MOPARS @ E'TOWN is an event that means an awful lot to me, and this year's edition was super spectacular... Read all the details in my official "strip smarts" sanctioned Drag Racing Underground blog... "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...

Today's blog... 26TH ANNUAL MOPARS @ E'TOWN A SMASHING SUCCESS!!...

Here's one of my faves from this past weekend's MOPARS @ E'TOWN event... George Edwards at the wheel of his raucous "Reverend Mr. Black III" '64 Plymouth Belvedere. It's an original max-wedge factory lightweight model with lots of muscle!!...

As you know, not too long ago we lost "Cool Bus School Bus" builder and driver Ken Nelson to cancer... Well, it's been brought to my attention by my good friend, E'Town's Michelle Marchese, that Ken's widowed wife, Anita, has put the entire "Cool Bus" racing operation up for sale... I credit Ken & Anita's kindness, generosity and graciousness as playing a major role in making me the success I am today in motorsports journalism... They helped me in ways that I'm not going to go into here, but I assure you that I owe them an awful lot for all they've done for me... That said, I urge anyone who is looking to make a good living with a first-class exhibition vehicle to consider buying the "Cool Bus" package now up for sale... I have witnessed the bus run many times, and I've never seen a wheelstander perform so consistently and stay so straight... This is a first-class racing operation that's a true once in a lifetime opportunity for someone looking to get into the exhibition biz... I provide a link to the online classified ad for the bus in my blog and more... "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...

I tell you how the late Ken Nelson and his widowed wife Anita were so helpful to me, and why anyone looking to get into the drag racing exhibition business should buy this bus!!... Folks who use the internet simply to start fights and dispense gross distortion of the facts are often referred to as "trolls"... Unfortunately cyber "trolling" has branched out to the practice of claiming folks are dead who are really still very much alive and kicking... It's been brought to my attention that Drag Racing great Butch "The California Flash" Leal recently fell victim to this brand of blowharded buffoonery... People who know and admire the man instantly felt their hearts drop to their stomachs when reading the false reports... The lesson of today's blog is to firmly tell "cyber trolls" that before they go running to their computer, thinking they have some sort of "inside scoop", and then hastefully start typing away on their keyboards, spreading lies and tales of deception, especially in the case of somebody's alleged death, they best check the facts, once, twice, even three times-- Don't be a jack***, exercise intelligence and impeccable discretion before you go burying a body with your keyboard that's still very much alive... That's the valuable lesson I teach to the cyber community with today's "Strip Smarts" sanctioned blog... "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...

Occasionally you know someone who has worked hard and deserves the good fortune that comes their way-- Such is the case of my longtime friend, Paul Bailey-- Having worked the last 20 years at E'Town, NHRA announced they're hiring Paul to head-up their Division 4 office in Texas-- E'Town is going to be a slightly lonelier place without Paul, but we're all happy 'round these parts about his new career move... I'm often asked which drag racing pages I recommend on Facebook, and to be honest, I'm always a little, ahem, apprehensive about discussing Facebook on my blog, 'cause I'm not sure if it's really such a great (or safe) place for some of my younger readers to spend their time-- However, for those mature enough to deal with Facebook, I provide a partial list of places I like to visit, like the brand new "Nitro Heads" page, and I promise my readers that I'll elaborate more thoroughly about the drag racing side of Facebook in a future blog... And finally, I send my thoughts and prayers to those in Louisiana and the places where Tropical Storm Isaac wreaked havoc... It's all in today's edition of my "Strip Smarts" sanctioned drag racing blog... "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...

Hey, that's great news! I remember Paul as a young whipper snapper many moons ago. So nice to see him at York and E-town this year. bp

Bill, Paul Bailey aka "Wayne Paul" (the name that everybody calls him at E'Town) is the best guy for the job-- I owe him a lot, because when I first started my career in motorsport journalism, he would always be the perfect gentleman to me, never the bigoted blowhard, like some other j*rks I've had to deal with, he'd often give me the "inside scoops" I needed to not only do my job, but excel at it as well-- He's got the brains, personality, along with the perfect temperament and sense of humor to make him a MAJOR BENEFIT for NHRA and their Division 4 region-- I hope NHRA realizes just how LUCKY they are to have him in their employ-- They couldn't have done any better than hiring Paul Bailey aka "Wayne Paul"-- He's a longtime friend of Drag Racing Underground and one of the best people this sport has in its stable... There really are some genuinely smart and good guys in this sport and he's one of 'em... For today's blog I make an Indy observation from the female perspective... "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...

It's LABOR DAY 2012, so I do the "right thing" by saluting the crew people who LABOR so tirelessly, doing the dirty and often under-appreciated "grunt work" at the drag strip... I tip my hat to the countless crew members, the overworked and underpaid "unsung heroes" who labor behind the scenes, behind the glamour, and humbly work the hot 'n' humid, often physically challenging trenches at the races... They don't have the "luxury" of "complaining" or "whining" when they're tired-- no matter what, they perform under pressure, using their muscles and performing manual labor, all while exemplifying the kind of strong and admirable work ethic that's deeply rooted in the old-school and pioneering true-grit American spirit... "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...

Today's blog... WHILE BARBECUING & PLAYING "TWISTER" TODAY, THINK OF THOSE LABORING AT THE STRIP...

On this LABOR DAY 2012, I ask that while you're barbecuing, partying and playing "Bikini Twister" with your friends, that you take a moment to give thought to those who tirelessly LABOR at the drag strip... It's the crew people, like the formidable "Fuelish Behavior" crew pictured here, who boldly exemplify the strong and admirable work ethic rooted in the True-Grit American Spirit... I salute them, I ask on this day that you please do so as well...

Those who follow drag racing know there's one woman who is so dominant and all-powerful, that there's no way around her strong will and constitution, and no, for all you blowhard wise-crackers out there, it's not me, ha ha-- I'm talkin' 'bout "Mother Nature"-- "She" caused NHRA to postpone the U.S. Nationals for a week due to rain...Well, ya know what they say, we can guarantee everything except the weather... Hopefully this coming weekend "Mother Nature" will be far more forgiving and smile down upon us drag racing folk with her warm sunshine... Rescheduled racing details and ESPN-TV coverage disclosed in my "Strip Smarts" sanctioned blog... "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...

Look, I admit to receiving at least 20-30 press releases a day, most from aftermarket manufacturers, some from race track promoters, racers, etc... And I also admit to being pretty darn picky and finicky about printing press releases in my blog, mainly because I believe racers and fans have lots of other media options to be exposed to the content that's being promoted in a majority of those press releases, I know that my readers come to my blog each and every single day because they want to know my perspective on current drag racing and topical issues-- THAT'S what they're looking for-- However, that said, sometimes when my friend, E'Town's Michelle Marchese, or my buddies at NHRA send me something that I believe NEEDS TO BE SEEN for the benefit of the sport and my readers, I print it pronto!-- Such is the case with a press release that I printed today that provides details about THIS WEEKEND'S final race of NHRA's Northeast Division... C'mon out to E'Town and support REAL drag racing!!... "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...

Are your neighbors "race friendly", I don't mean the black and white or ethnic sort of friendly, I mean do your neighbors respect your hot roddin' & drag racin' ways in a friendly and respective manner?-- OR do they freak out like crybabies and call the cops every time you fire-up your hot rod and they hear a "rump, rump" resonating from your driveway or garage?-- That touchy subject surfaces in today's blog... I also send Happy Birthday wishes to my trusty assistant Stephanie, longtime musician friend Tom Timko, who has played sax and horns with countless artists, including Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Springsteen, and Shakira, and recorded guest sax on a BIG STICK track of ours called "DRAGUMENTARY", a song that's already been previewed on National Public Radio's "Hearing Voices" program-- And I also wish Happy B-Day to the actress who starred in "One Million Years BC" and still remains as one of my favorite celebs in 2012... "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...

Are your neighbors "race friendly"? I don't mean black and white "race friendly", I mean, do they or don't they complain when you fire-up your bold bubbletop hot rod at home?... I also send Happy Birthday wishes to Drag Racing Underground's Stephanie, Big Stick guest musician Tom Timko, and actress Raquel Welch in today's blog...
