The Night Shift

Here's where we go to kick back after the races with our pals. Pour a tall one, punch a few buttons on the jukebox, and relax...

Glad it worked out great, Cat. I'd like to see you do it again, but with the stipulation that you can pop students out of there if they are not measuring up. bp

Thanks, guys...that is a very good idea, BP. I will be sure to add that to the contract. Tonight I practiced with the Citykings. It was productive. I have one new piece of music but I'm not sure if it's going to work out because it sounds very similar to another song that Bill has going on, so I can drop it and come up with something else...I played it last night at a Whiskey Saints rehearsal and Lanis came up with full lyrics for it, so I might as well keep it with that band...Lanis is a fountain of cool lyrics and melodies...that's his special gift and he does it without stopping for hours on end...it's amazing. The Whiskey Saints are a great band but we have Lanis who writes Swamp-Pop and blues, and James on guitar with songs that have 17 to 21 chords in them...I say simple is good, but it's hard not to learn James' songs. They are challenging. With the Citykings, Bill's writing new material and it's great stuff, as usual. They've got me doing songs I wrote a while back that they still want to perform, so I'm doing them, "Web of Deception", "Downtown Woman", "Way Down In The Hole", "Tired Of Puttin' Up With You", etc. These will be on the second CD. It sure is great to be back with the band. The open-mic jams got old real quick...Cheers, WC1

Scotty's getting a divorce. Just got word. He got married 13 months ago, first one for both of them. Lots of pressure to make a lot of babies ASAP for the in-laws to spoil. That didn't happen, and WTF. Life happens. He's Jewish, she's Catholic, she's a babe (he's conducted his own Miss Universe pageant at his drum kit as long as I've known him) and they both come from big money. Bigger than most folks have...so that wasn't an issue...or probably even a subject. I just told him, it's not much help to say this, but it's probably better now than...later. Know what I'm saying? Anyway, I got the PA speaker driver that was blown out replaced by Mikey yesterday. He's the guitar tech at Rockin' Robin, and he's got a great job over there. He's been with 'em for 12 years. It goes on non-stop...mostly it's re-string this and tune that, but there are some catastrophes that come in there that he fixes. Whatever it is. He does it all. Violins, guitars, bass fiddles, harps, everything, electric and acoustic. It's a fascinating job. I went over his house and the next thing you know, all these people show up and the party started. The band (Blue Agave) plugged in and I played lead guitar with them and had a blast. I put the parts in the PA speaker today and we'll give 'em a spin tonight at the Cock-Eyed Seagull gig. Life is good. WC1

Good stuff, Cat. Thanks for the updates. Sorry about Scotty, but FWIW, I agree that it's better now than later. bp

When I was at the Shakedown gig at the Cock-Eyed Seagull Saturday night, I picked up a copy of The Scene magazine and this nice review was in it, by Jim Shortt. I scanned it so I don't think the quality is very good, but hopefully it'll work. It went into Glowfoto as a big file. If it don't work good, let me know and I'll remove it...Cheers, WC1
