The Night Shift

Here's where we go to kick back after the races with our pals. Pour a tall one, punch a few buttons on the jukebox, and relax...

Thanks for those kind words, guys. They pay me well to teach there. I have no complaints at all about their pay scale for me. I get a lot of requests for private lessons and my fee is what the school pays me and that's the last I hear from the folks that ask me to give them private lessons. I can't wait to get it all going (gigs, teaching and now a great full-time day job) and put it all together. The way I figure, it'll put us back in the same flow we were in before I took early retirement back in early 2005. I am saying Allelulia a lot around here lately...
This weekend's gigs with Shakedown were like a rollercoaster ride. As I have mentioned before, the cost of the alcohol consumption of some of the members of this group has at times exceeded their gross pay for their night's work, and we're in the top percentage of paid bands in the Bay Area. We played Friday night at Katie's in Bacliff and did fine, all things considered. It was a solid performance and the club had a blast with us. Last night, things didn't quite go so swimmingly. The band might be without a singer, drummer and bass player by as early as next weekend. I have some things to deal with right now but I'll get back to this later today. Last night's gig pretty much pulled away the curtains and revealed the underlying problems that Shakedown has been avoiding having to be confronted with. Now it's all out in the open and unavoidably has to be resolved one way or the other...Cheers, WC1

Wheelz, if I didn't include you on that email, I'm sorry. Yes, I just finished up my first week as the graphics and production coordinator (in training) at an excellent reprographics company in Houston. The owner of the company hired me over the phone as soon as he heard I was available. It was done without him looking at my portfolio or reading my resume or asking me for references, and without me even filling out an application. He already knew me and what I do, and he hired me on the spot at an excellent salary that will take care of everything...did I say life is good? Thank you for your many words of encouragement, Wheelz. This came through for me at precisely the moment it had to...not a second sooner...nor later. Cheers, WC1

Sorry about this, John. Good move to let things cool down. When they come crawling back, which I think they will, that will be your opportunity to tell them how YOU want things to run if they want you back. If not, go with the other gigs you have that are much less of a hassle.

You do NOT make enough money at those gigs to put up with this much crap. bp
