Bruce Alexander

I see where Bruce Alexander died recently. Bruce was one of the pioneers recapping tires into racing slicks. I know I always remember seeing his decals on the cars back in the 60's and later.
Rest in peace my friend, and thank you for your contribution to our sport.

This article is from the NHRA site:

Tire pioneer Bruce Alexander passes: Bruce Alexander, one of the preeminent developers of racing tires since the early 1940s, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 26, at the age of 89. Alexander founded Bruce's Recaps in Oakland, Calif., and went on to build race tires for many of the biggest names in motorsports, including many early NHRA competitors who utilized his drag racing slicks.

Working in conjunction with Firestone, Alexander spent the better part of his life working with law enforcement agencies and various state highway departments in helping them produce better road compounds that would prolong the life and safety of car tires. Alexander was recognized many times for his safety contributions, winning countless awards and honors.

Farewell, Bruce. How many drivers did he save via his tire research? Quite a few, I'll reckon. bp
