Perry, sorry to hear this. I know where there are some iron engines. One is a complete 392. I believe a 354 is available too. Just trying to help. I don't remember what you have for heads. A 354 with an offset ground 392 crank would get you well over 450 in. I know Donovans are expensive, I do know where there is a block though. A friend has one in Calif. He's not going to use it, he lacks the rest of the parts. Lippy
If you think it's exciting now, wait till we start it.

Randy - the current hypothesis is not enough oil pressure. When the oil gets diluted and hot after about 3 runs, my pressure starts to drop off. I was still carrying 50-60 lbs, but maybe with the big clearances and the high rpm it's not quite enough.

Lippy - If you know where a good Donovan block is located I'm all ears. I'll give you a call later. (I didn't call you back the other night cuz I figured I'd get this thing apart and tell you the whole story..)

I'm hesitant to put an iron motor back in there. After the block failed on my first one I kinda swore off ruining any more of them.

I called Steve Lanius at Missile yesterday - they make the 392/Donovan rocker arms for Hal Canode - to see if he can put a new roller tip in the intake rocker that decided to quit rolling and make itself square. I also wanted to ask him about block repair because I heard through the grapevine that he does that as well. I've got an old block that's been sitting in the back of the shop with a hairline crack in the center main heading toward the cam. We had decided that it wasn't worth fixing, but now that it looks better than the other 2 blocks I've destroyed I thought I'd ask. Steve said that it was typical, and that he's fixed a lot of them successfully. Then he asked what I wanted for the destroyed block(s). Now I had figured these would go to the scrap man so I never thought about it, but he needs a setup block. So we decided that he'd look at everything I've got and see what we can work out to get me a repaired block and him a setup block.

Turns out he's got a vendors booth at the NHRR in Columbus this weekend. So I'm gonna take everything along with me to the race and get that moving along.

I've been going through all of the peices I've got in the corner.... I've got a full set of rods and pistons (brooks and ross) for a .060 over stock stroke combo that only have 25 runs on them. I've got a full set of .060 over sleeves to go with them. I've got a good cam - ok - I've got 4 good cams. Heck, if I can get this block repaired, all I'm missing is a crank.

So that's my current plan - I just need to find a standard stroke 392 crankshaft and a good 3 or 4 stage dry sump pump and I'm good to go.
