Team Draglist Super(?) Van

Postby draglist » Sun Aug 19, 2007 7:54 pm

OK... first post for the minivan, so a little catch up is in order. Put $1200 into it to get ready for the cross country trip to Colorado and the DLNs... then, thieves tried to break into the passenger window. Alarm scared them off but another $550. Then the A/C went out and we replaced that after driving all the way across the country in July without A/C (and without Cruise control). Another $2000. Fast forward to this weekend...

Drove to Ohio Friday to visit siblings, cousins, and to celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary of my friends Bud and Lois Sanford. Going up was no problem. Today, we drove through Pennsylvania and it rained all day. Wipers started going crazy on the van... the passenger side stopped working in sync with the driver side and eventually stopped it from working (held it down). I put the flashers on and managed to limp through the downpour, sans wipers, to the next exit. Got the damned thing untangled. Then it didn't move at all... just a little jerk out of that one but the driver's side worked. So I hit the highway again. Sure enough, the passenger side one started going crazy again but way OVER extended and got stuck on the passenger side mirror! I figured that was good enough for me, so I continued on... got home and found that it carved up the paint pretty good on that pillar. Man, this had better not cost me a ton of money. I'm tired of putting money into this old heap this year! bp

Thanks... Oh.. I forgot that it stranded Denise and one of the other ladies at the DLNs... stopped DEAD in the Wal-Mart parking lot... might have some gremlins in that dude... but sounds like your weekend might have been more expensive than mine, Randy! bp

Stranded us again tonight! Same thing as Eddyville... I think that the electric locks are freaking out... dead as a doornail when we came out of a store. Got a jump and it tried to die on my three more times on the way home. Looks like we'll be showing up in Eddyville in something else. Still, at $5000 down the drain I probably didn't lose as much as Bob K did on his last pass...

Time to let 'er go, BP...as much as it hurts...I'm going through the same thing, well, not as bad as what you've been dealing with, but Ludwig is struggling and I can see the end is near. I'm gonna get a new minivan soon, in the next week or so. I'm still looking around. I'm not going to trade Ludwig in, though. I'm going to put him in my cousin Bert's junk yard up in Shreveport...pay cash for the new van and drive off. Man, you know the Super Crew Van is going to fizzle on you when you need it to scoot away...just go ahead, man. Get a new one. Advice from your evil twin over here...Cheers, WC1

Dealers'll bend over backwards to make a deal with you, man...they've got a LOT more leeway than John Q. Public gives 'em credit for...but watch out for the smooth-talking devil who'll get you in on some kind of bad interest rate financing...get your finances together first and stick to your guns..because THAT's where the money is made at a dealership. I just don't trust any of 'em, and I'm sure none of us do, either. No BS. If you get BS, you're through with 'em. This is what a friend of mine advised me on today. No double-talk. Straight-up talk only. You ain't nobody's fool. The first words they speak that are confusing, leave. (Get the Magnum)...WC1

No problem here... brother Tim has sold cars for decades and has filled me in on all the angles. In fact, I'll probably have Tim look out for deals as people trade stuff in... that's how we got our neat Saturn Vue. Now, I gotta figure out what I want! bp

Magnum, dude! I saw one today and it was awesome...I think it had a hemi? Look, BP, I don't want to bother anybody with this, but I do have a question about getting this new car that I need to ask somebody who'd know that isn't selling me the car, know what I'm saying? I need to find out how much I'll get off if I pay cash instead of financing it...from what I understand, it is a significant amount, like half off...could I ask Tim?
