Major change of plans has come up. Last post I made was to buy a Chevy Uplander and move Ludwig (1993 Chevy Astro EXT Cargo Van, 4.3L V-6, 224,000 miles) to my cousin Bert's place up in Shreveport. A couple of things changed this. First, the Chevy dealer started adding on some charges that weren't on the original "drive-out price" data sheet that I signed. Also, the only Chevy Uplander they could find was in South Padre Island, 300-plus miles away...that is incredible, isn't it...the dealer has no Uplanders that I could even test-drive...I could go on about that, but I was telling Nick about it, and he jumped on me, big-time, when I said that Ludwig was going to Shreveport. Turns out Nick is taking Driver's Ed (I didn't know that!) and he insisted that Ludwig must stay here. I said, tellya what, Nick. How 'bout if I get Ludwig fixed. 100% fixed. Like new, all the way to getting a new paint job. I looked up the best Auto Shop in town and I can take Ludwig to them with a list of things I want done to him and they'll do it. Then I'll give Ludwig to you when you get your driver's license and you'll have a van to drive and move your band around in. Nick lit up. My sister, Sylvia, has already said she's going to get a car for Nick and pay for his college, I'll leave that up to her but what I think is it'll cost much less than half of the money I'm getting next week to get a NEW car with. If Nick gets Ludwig, then why don't I just go ahead and get me a used low-mileage Chevy HHR that I can carry my stuff around in...it's evolving into a better deal for everybody all the way around. Debby is going to offer to take my folks to California to visit my Dad's brother. That will begin her quest to become an elderly companion as a new career, and it'll help my Dad realize his wish to visit his brother...one last time...before it won't be possible...so I'm hedging on the first deal and developing a new plan to get Ludwig restored, give him to Nick, and get me a newer, reliable utility car...Life is good.
