I just got back from Galveston, Debby was at UTMB with Muriel (my stepmom), helping her up to my Dad's room. As it turns out, my Dad has had a very rough week. He felt fine Wednesday, but Thursday, Friday, yesterday and today, multiple complications have set in and there are concerns about his recovery at this point. He turned out to be anaemic, he is receiving blood transfusions, still losing blood and they don't know where or how he is losing blood, and he has had extreme discomfort, pain and they have either overmedicated him or not given him enough, and once they gave him something that had the opposite effect that they expected. This reinforces my opinion of UTMB's after-care procedures. I have known folks who died from being given the wrong medication there. Now my Dad is stuck in their system. The surgery was done, it is complete. Now he's suffering more than ever and they don't have a damn clue what to do for him. It's getting a little scary at this point. He has not improved, he has gotten worse. Right now he's weak, semi-conscious and hanging in there. Debby came home but she'll be going back Tuesday for the rest of the week. I will be checking in every day to see what Dad's progress or lack of progress is from now on. Debby and I also went down to visit Herby, he's on the 9th floor right below my Dad's room. We ran into Jeff and Paula when we got off the elevator. Jeff's the bass player for Pee Wee. Visited with them for a while, then when we got to Herby's room, a bass player was there that I played with several years ago in Louisiana Boogie, his name was Ralph. He and his wife hung out for a few minutes and left, then me and Debby visited with Herby for a half-hour. He has no energy and he nodded off while we visited, but he came to and apologized, I said no problem, just rest. We went ahead and went back up to my Dad's room, and he was out as well, so we came back to Houston. We stopped off in a big thunderstorm in Alvin at a Casa Ole and I had a Fiesta Dinner. Debby created her own enchiladas, cheese and chicken combinations...seems like Ludwig's starter is acting up...I'll have to check on that once it dries up outside...been raining all day. Life is good, but we're moving ahead cautiously at this point. My Dad's future is at this time questionable, with no real changes being made at UTMB...WC1
