Barracudas

I'm seeking an id. on a few Barracuda funny cars,and hoping you fellow Drag Listers might be able to help me out.The first two,taken by John Reed,were sent to me by David Dilbeck.They were taken at Warner Robins some time in the sixties,and the car APPEARS to be rear engine.Any help out there ? The third shot was taken by Big Bob Snyder at Charlotte in 1971.It is not the Baltimore Bandit.Any ideas ?The fourth shot is a John Kilburg shot,taken in 1974.Ronnie Siebert is in the near lane in the Vega,but not sure what the BB Cuda in the far lane is.The paint resembles the old Ben Griffin Cuda,but that's not him in this photo.The next shot is from Rockford,taken by Glen Brown and posted over at Nitro Geezer.It is NOT Bob Cain.Any takers ?The last shot was taken in the 70s at Saskatchewan,and I haven't a clue.Thanks for any help! Since I am venturing outside of my comfort zone (California) with the exception of the more well publicized east coast rigs, I will scan my Drag News and attempt to ID the 68 injected Cuda that bears a slight resemblence to Don Cain's injected gas funny. The weedsweeper headers tend to imply that its a fuel burner and not part of the gas circuit as the petrol burners used the collector style headers. It looks like it came from the pages of Drag News. And based on the crowd, it might have been in those months exempting the summer, since it appearrs to be a bit brisk. My Drag News are listed according to year and date. But alas a word search isnt feasible, so I have to resort to the old crude means of hard searching one by one.

could the Glenn Brown pic be the Fontanini and Naninni car??.....they ran an injected early cuda that was blue.then ran a neat Loggue chassied 68-69 Charger and later a 70 Charger.anyway I knwo they ran a cuda it was inejctd and it was blue.never seen a pic of it though???.......ERIK

Are you that they ran a Cuda? I was always under the impression that they stuck with the Mini-Charger body style.

yep like i say I am too young to have seen any of them but they did run an injected early cuda before the chargers.......and that might be it??....ERIK

Well they very well could have run a Cuda, but I am only familiar with their efforts from about 1968; the year that the UDRA insituted their injected circuit.

Sorry for the late 'thank you' Duke.Erik,Bill,here is the Fontanini Cuda when it was red/white,later in 67 was blue/white.Gene Carlson thanks for the first photo,Bob Plumer the second.This was a flip-top car.The last shot,by Mike Ditty,is after Wendall Shipman bought the car in 1968. Ughhh on two counts. One for my not making recollection on the Shipman Cuda, equipped with the Scott Slot, as being the ex Fontanini and Naninni. The second being the mounting of "WHITEWALLS". I never saw the Shipman version, and living in So-Cal, I certainly never saw it being raced by its original owners. Since we have depicted one of the more famous UDRA cars, could we have a few more posted? Doesnt have to be a flopper, maybe a blown gasser or what ever. Also note kuddos being given to Frank Pedregon for the motor. Maybe thats his old Taco Taster engine: It ran a Scott for years

great shots!! well it is definately not the F&N car and now i have seen it which is cool!!.......now who's got the long nose door slammer one then???...... the CHI TOWN boys never ran one like that did they??? I know they ran an AWB car first and they had a flopper early cuda but could they have run an in betweener??......of course it could be anybody as there were tons of those things weekly it seems......ERIK

I would go so far ouit on a limb as to proclaim the rear engine Cuda as being the ex Fred Goeske/Tom McKwen rear engine car. It bears all the right proportions and amenities, and I doubt that someone would build from scratch, a rear engine car for what appears to be a car designated to compete in the gasser/altered classes
