Bob Hightower, (4/12/08), was a past AHRA Top Fuel National Event winner and one of the most respected of the '60s AA/FD pilots wheeling machines for a number of car owners.

Another hero gone. Bob was a major player in the FED wars... always competitive in the hundreds of SoCal Top Fuel shows of the era. Farewell, Bob. bp

Brett is correct, Hightower won the 1966 AHRA Winternationals which had been temporarly moved from Bee Line Dragway in Arizona to the just opened Irwindale. I recall reading where Hightower won $6 grand for his effort. Did he reinvest it in the car? Nope he and pals venutred to south of the border (Baja to be more specific) and lived like kings for a month sustaining themseleves on daily regime of beer and lobster. I tip my hat to a man who knew how to live for the moment
