I had some down time for a few weeks so I pulled the pan and the heads and gave it it's 20 run checkup. I went ahead and changed the upper rod bearings. The really didn't need changed, but I had some on the bench so I shoved them in. I pulled some main caps and the main bearings still look new. Everything looked good on the top end. Hopefully I put enough silicone on the head gaskets this time to keep them from drooling

It's back together and ready to load up for another shot at the monthly Quaker City nostalgia wars race this Saturday. No red lights, no red lights, no red lights...

Perry...my second wife got in the habit of wearing a red shirt to the track....to remind "me" of what color NOT to leave behind on the christmas tree

As we watched coverage of the national event from Sonoma, the announcers were commenting about all the red lights in the pro ranks and my current wife chimed in that..."They were all taking driving lessons from Billy Mac"....I really don't know what she meant by that

Well, no red lights this time! The track conditions changed dramatically and did me in tho.

First time run was 8.75. Typical first run at Quaker with a bit of skating on the not so prepped track. Second time run was a way out of the groove (so far out I just about gave it up but she finally listened to me and came back where she belonged...) 8.72. That gave me an 8.62 dial for the day.

First round I ran against a '55 chevy with a 14.03 dial. I waited patiently for my light as I watched him tool on down the strip. My lights finally came down and I waited, what I thought was an extra amount of time and left - turns out I had an .003 light - whew that was close... I caught him at about 1000' with an 8.65 to his 14.33.

I was a bit concerned that I had gained 7 hundredths because the clouds were coming in and the track was starting to come around.

Second round I was paired against a 12.60. Once again I waited it out and hit a .040 light. I caught her close to the end of the track, but broke out with a 8.613 on my 8.62 dial. I guess I should have added some fuel to try to slow it down a bit.. oh well.

Then the monsoon hit, the tent colapsed, and we all get reeeellly wet.
