We did the cruise yesterday. We had beautiful weather all the way to Fayetteville and back. The whole trip lasted 12 hours, from sunup to sundown. 17 cars from 3 clubs were represented and we drove there and back in formation, single-line with Mike Bridge's "White Lightning" in the lead. We went through several small towns and took "back roads", avoiding interstate traffic...our club was warmly welcomed at the 4 service stations that we stopped at and all the way, when cars came up to pass the club, we slowed down and pulled over to the shoulder to let them past us. Everybody loved our deal. I learned that Fayetteville was the other way from where I thought it was...it's Northwest of Houston, not Northeast. It's a small village between LaGrange and Bastrop, about 75 miles Southeast of Austin. When we arrived, we parked in a line in the middle of the town square and after having a steak dinner at Joe's Cafe, we went out to Jim Kolb's ranch. He's a buddy of Pee Wee's and he built a 40-acre spread outside of town. He restores old tractors in his shop...that's his black '57 Chevy in the town square sequence...and he and his wife had a picnic for us at the pond on his property, with cake and ice cream. Wish Rapid could have been there, but then there wouldn't have been any cake left for us! It was a fantastic day for the Phantom Kruisers. I am extremely proud to be a member of this fine club. The link I'm posting to the gallery of pictures I took goes to my smugmug page. Everyone is welcome to view all my stuff, but the "Phantoms Ride To Fayetteville" album is the one with our cruise. Enjoy! WC1
