I have been a big fan of Neal and his funny cars and altereds for many years on the East Coast. He was a fine person and a great racer, at times the fastest in the world in his chosen category. We at draglist.com want to extend our deepest sympathies to Neal's family and friends. bp

Here is the NHRA statement:

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. -- Top Alcohol Funny Car racer Neal Parker, 58, from Millville, N.J., crashed today at a high rate of speed in the shutdown area during qualifying for the NHRA SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park and was pronounced dead. NHRA officials and the New Jersey State Police are investigating the accident. On behalf of everyone at NHRA and Raceway Park, we are deeply saddened and want to pass along our sincere condolences to the entire Parker family.

Very sad day.
Neal was a stalwart of alky racing here in the East.
He was popular with the fans and a fierce competitor on the IHRA tour.
Condolences to Neal's family and friends.
