So like check it out,....
So this weekend was the Div 6 lucas oil series races in Seattle, and I new I would probly be going to help Clint out on his alky flopper
bUt they also booked in 7 or 8 Nitro Nostalgia flopper, so I figured I might be doing double duty.
So on the other hand I am thinking my chassis is up for cert next month and I will take it there and get the chassis re certed,....So I get there Friday at about
4 pm,..there is one more round of alky qaulifying to go, and only 5 alky floppers and 3 alky diggers,..Clint has about 6 guys around and I helped a little, twist here, a snug here, and that was a bout it...so I get the inspector to my car to cert it and he says your good for 3 years, you have one more year left, and I say Cool thats awesome to know.
So now to the really cool part,..so there are only 6 maybe 7 Nostalgia funny cars and Rich Carlson went had a chat with the track manager, well long story short, on Saturday a track official pulls up and hands me a tech card and says you run at 6 and 9,..and I am like woooo hoooo I get to make two passes.
So I pass tech, and its time to roll the Nostalgia cars up to the line and all the fuel cars are in one lane and my Bro tows me up the right lane to the head of the pack,..I mean it made sence to me run me first, then the fuel cars,..well they didnt want a single. So guess who I get to run against and in what ????
I get to run against my buddy Mr. Clint Thompson in his No Laughing Matter 1970 Mustang fuel car,..
We had a brief chat that I wouldnt burn him done and such and pretty much new what to do,.he was going to sit for 2.5 to 3 seconds to give me a head start.
so We fired up roll threw the water box stop and we both mat the loud pedals and begin the burnouts,.well his car was so loud I couldnt here the Veneys Vega so I just matted it and rolled with it,...Now out about 150 to 200 feet I can see Clint getting out of it and I can hear my car and it is just boiling the hides and I just keep on smokin the suckrs right up to half track (John Force yea baby) it was the biggest burnout I have ever done,..I getter rollin in reveres at 20 mph, and come up on Clint and idle back with him,..we all get stopped and put into Forward and I let him roll forward to his wife at the line and I do 3 or 4 dry hops up to the line,..I give a glance over and see him going to roll in, so I light the top bulb and then Clint,..Now this is where it gets messed up,..Both of us have the top bulbs on and I wait about 2 or 3 seconds and I stage andhave the trans brake set all while looking at clints bulb wait and waiting and waiting for Clint to be full staged,..he waited to long or did not have enough time to go to the high side grab some brake, let the clutch out and roll in, It had to have been milli seconds, but Clint Timed out and my Grn came on, and his went Red,...well I thought thats wierd, and quickly said gotta go !!!! 1.16 light for me,..so
now Ive got the wheels 2 feet in the air and its going straight and its a great run 8.13@163,..so all the while Clint gave me the 3 seconds and never caught me and in the process at 1,000 ft he popped the burst panel and had a small flash fire and they stopped us both on the track just before the turn off and I am thinking to myself wholly sh*t what just happend and now Clints on fire,.....so amother long storie short Clint timed out and got no time slip and I might need to give a fuel car in the future alot more time to stage before I go in , and also that This is why Fuel funny cars dont run against Injected alky cars.
But Clint and I talked after words and it was all good we both know what happend but still enjoyed linning up against eachother and running it all out.
The Crowd gave me and the Veneys Vega a standing ovation when we came back up the return road, it was quite thrilling too, the little injected car beat the AA/FC,..Huh,...bet that wont ever happen again.....It was a blast....the second run later they had me run first on a solo,..again another career best burnout, dry hops and wheels up launch carding a 8.26@162...so atleast now I can say I staged up against a fuel car, and well,,..basically beat it to the stripes,..wow it was cool,..........I know there is atleast one video of the burnout that will be out soon, along with some great photos,..so as they arrive and get released I will share with ya all, my once in a lifetime run, and shot at running against a Nostalgia Fuel Funny Car,....Look out Randy I am getting some pratice...Bwaahahahahaha
