well guys, i know i left off on a bad note, the car had slowed up to 9.30's. this had been the re-occuring theme of the year for us. the intake manifold has been leaking all year. it will seal up for about a week and leak again. either it will burn the oil out of the lifter valley or just suck air in and lean the motor out.

we came home and tore the manifold off. guess what it was leaking! the manifold wasn't all the way down, as the bolts were holding it up off the heads just a tad. after slotting the holes we put some new gaskets on it and changed the oil. off to the track we went. (this was last weekend).

first pass was a 9.25. next was a 9.26. we decided that the carb was overly rich (we jetted it up 4 sizes before we found our intake leak), so we took the 92's out and put 88's back in it. she went out and ran a tire spinning 9.23. unfortanatlly, the rain moved in and our evening was cut short.

fast forward to this weekend. all we did was leave the car sit in the trailer. both of us (dad and i) were pretty disgusted with the car and are tired of banging our heads against the wall, so we didn't even look at it. first pass outta the trailer she went a 9.15! next pass it went a 9.16 and the pass after that it went a 9.17.

time for round 1. we put a 9.16 on the car. dad cut a .527(.500 tree) and the car went a 9.158. lost due to the .002 break out . since it's getting close to the end of the year, we did something we NEVER do. we bought back in.

long story short we knocked off our bracket again by beating a car from up north in the final (by up north i mean a Norwalk car). we dialed a 9.15 he dialed a 9.95. dad cut a .504 and the car went a 9.152. guy from norwalk cut a .513 and went a 9.96. he was no match for our .006 package!

now if we can sneak her into the 8's this season we will both be exstatic! NITRO sounds better all the time. j/k

thanks for reading,
corey

update

Postby Buffjhsn » Mon Oct 16, 2006 5:13 pm

well after fighting weather and tracks being closed due to ihra bracket finals, we just got to race again 2 weeks ago for the first time since we won. fianlly we are getting close to our other goal the 8's!

first pass off the trailer the car went a 9.05. next pass she went a 9.04. we skipped last time run and waited for first round. the air was really good, the best we had seen all year and we were having a ball.

first round we dialed the car a 9.03. we raced a guy who was dialed 9.99. dad crossed over on him and treed the snot outta him. the other guy cut a .535, dad had a perfect .500. the other guy ran dead on with a 2 (9.992) and we ran off by 3. went a 9.060. the margin at the stripe was a whopping .007! MAN i hate first round. i was just happy we were moving on.

2nd round we raced a car that was dialed 9.15. we bumped the dial in up to a 9.04. dad cut a .530 the other car had a .539 we ran a 9.06 on a .04, and the other guy broke out running a 9.11 on his .15.

next round we had a bye run. but this was no ordinary bye run. we decided that since next round was gonna be the semi finals and we were gonna hafta race, we werent gonna show our cards. so dad ran it to 1/2 track and shut it off. he coasted thru at 9.74 at 98 mph. Man i remeber back in the day when 9.70's was fast for us, lol!

so now we are down to 3 cars. and the worst thing that could happen to us did, dad red lighted. went .498 red! when i got back to the trailer and looked at the slip, it was the fastest 60 ft time of the night by .007 from the last pass. so in actuality, if it would have hooked the same, it would have been a .505. oh well that's racing!

fast forward to this past week. we have been trying to figure out how to get this tank of ours to go into the 8's. it's soooo close we can taste it! we took the car and weighed it. man that thing is a tank! 2740 with driver. the bad part is the only weight we can take out is the DRIVER and he dosent want to hear that! .

So we went to another track this past week end and got 2 passes. fastest pass was a 9.028 at 148.99. we left because the car was moving around due to the track(lots and lots of bumps). we decided to try again another day while the car was still in one piece.

so now looking twoards this weekend, we are gonna try to bust her into the 8's so we can move onto bigger and better things! now if only i can get him on the tread mill.... 8)

Buff, I'm with Doc on this. Great writing, man...these stories tell it from the racer's perspective, it's like I'm hanging out with you and you're talking to me about the race and you use drag racing language that sounds so right. The car looks great...only thing I could suggest would be to beat the floorboard in another inch and let your dad stomp the gas pedal down farther? Sitting right on top of the 8s like that must be a real test...I remember a couple of seasons ago when Rapid was running 7.0s and 199...we were standing outside when he was racing, blowing towards the direction he was running in and waving air that way with Nitro Madness magazines...he broke through...I would suppose once you do get there, it's like stepping into a new world...good luck, can't wait to hear y'all ran an 8! Cheers, WC1
