The Hampshire's Bracket Car

Postby Buffjhsn » Fri Aug 25, 2006 6:57 pm

Well i decided it was time to start my own topic for our car. I haven't been on here for a while, dad and I have been fighting this car of ours tooth and nail with mixed results.

we changed our msd, dist. cap and pickup coil and picked up a tenth and a half! went from 9.28 to 9.12 out of the throttle!

Good News: We won our Box class 2 weeks ago. (Aug 12). took 6 rounds to do it but we did it. car ran between a 9.12 to a 15 all day long and dad was killing the tree. it was the boost we needed.

Bad news: After letting the car sit in the trailer all week and not touching anything, we went back to the same track last weekend. Car SLOWED down to 9.28-9.32 again. Now keep in mind the only thing we did was charge the batteries and out gas in it. the air was within 400 ft of where it was the week before. plus neither of us think that weather should slow us down almost 2 tenths!

so i guess we are back to square 1 again!  . hopefully we will get this thing sorted out one day.

here's our pic in the winner's circle!

oh yeah the track is now for sale, so if anyone wants to buy it for 750,000 go ahead!

update

Postby Buffjhsn » Sun Aug 27, 2006 9:45 pm

well first off, we race 1/4 mile

no good news this weekend, we got rained out during first round, and the car was slow....9.30's again.

pulled the header off and no color in it. pulled our new intake manifold off and guess what....it's leaking oil. guess it's back to the drawing board on that one. trying to do some research to seal this thing up. i will keep everyone informed as the story unfolds!

when we first put it together it was running 9.00's so now it seems slow. i guess we over look the fact that a lot of people would love to go that fast...

nope, no secret here.... it has BBC 505 with 14 to 1's, dart 325's edlebrock 454 TD manifold, Oliver rods, je pistons, Callie's crank and a good old 427 truck (tall deck) block. manly stainless valves, nex tex springs, clay smith cam, and titanium retainers and keepers. also run crane 1.7 roller rockers and comp lifters and push rods. hope i didn't forget anything....

trans is just a stock 1.76 powerglide with a coan break. not much trick stuff there....

converter is a 5500 stall coan with a steel stator.

rear gears are 4.33 Richmond pro gears.

dad does everything mechanical on the car other than set up the rear end. he assembles the motor and trans and any chassis fab. work that's to be done. i mainly supervise and give my opinion  . if there is any 4 link work to be done, i usually do that and the other suspension work.

but when we go to the track, i do everything from change jets in the carb, change plugs, set air pressure, set his delay box, etc so all he has to do is drive. it's truly a joint effort and it's a lot of hard work. but it's all good when you can go down there and win with something you built in the back yard!
