Some of my inside pals and fellow stat hounds know that among the stoopid things I've done with the draglist stats over the years, is a former practice of ONLY keeping the car's best times and ignoring its updated stats. In my young and naive head, all drag cars got faster year after year, so there was no need to record slower times in subsequent years. You would think I'd learn after Garlits' 1975 5.63 that was not bettered until 1982, but no... I kept that 5.63 on the list as the best time for each subsequent year Garlits ran until he eventually bettered it. Now take that practice times the other nearly 70,000 racers we have recorded and you can see that we had a lot of work to do.
I'm happy to report that after months of tedious editing, the drag lists are now dupe free (in terms of those duplicated ETs and speeds). In their place are a bunch of "unknowns," but at least when we do our research, we will see that we need that info and from now on won't ignore good info because we think we already have better times. Thanks to Danny White and the dozens of other contributors who help us update those lists. If you get a few free minutes, check 'em out using my signature line, look up a favorite or two, and send us an edit if you see something wrong. Now that we have removed thousands of bogus times from the lists, we have a LOT of work to do to replace them! bp
