Calvin Owens

Postby WildcatOne » Sun Mar 02, 2008 4:58 pm

Rev. Calvin Owens, a Houston and Texas Blues Legend, passed away February 21st. Services were February 25th at the church he preached at. I had the honor to meet Rev. Owens at SugarHill Studios in 2005 when the Citykings were working on their album, "Four Lifetimes". Calvin's project at that time was his album "The House Is Burning". He was a fine gentleman and everyone who knew him was not only in awe of the scope and depth of his talent, but at his incredible organizational skills and vast musical knowledge. He was a magnet for talent, and his band was widely regarded as being the best Blues Orchestra in the world. Joyce Pierce from the 5th Dimension was there that day as well; she had hired Calvin to work on her gospel CD that she decided to make. Good call, Joyce. I am attaching a recent photo taken by Jim Shortt of Trudy Lynn, Tommie Lee Bradley and Calvin together. RIP Mr. Owens. You are missed and will always be remembered. WC1

It saddens me every time one of these roots blues legends passes.
Rest in eternal joy Reverend.
