Sad and true. The veteran Top Fuel and Top Alcohol racer and chassis builder died in a top end crash in the early afternoon today. It appears that John became incapacitated somehow during the run (perhaps heart attack or stroke) because none of the 'stopping' controls were attempted at all -- that includes chutes, brakes, or fuel shutoff. The car went through all the standard barriers. John's loss of course put a very somber mood into the organizers and racers. To my knowledge, the crowd was not informed of John's passing, although it was reported that he had been airlifted to the hospital. The news has made the evening news here in Bakersfield. RIP, John. bp

John came to Mission many times.While he did his burnout and backup ,he had a Canadian flag on the cage,that was so cool

Always sad to lose anyone. R.I.P. John, you will be missed. Condolences to his family and friends. :(
