Bob Betzer

Postby Iowa Al » Sun May 04, 2008 8:54 pm

Long time friend and drag racer Bob Betzer of Carlisle passed away today.
When local speed shop owner Larry Laverty died, Bob bought the building and inventory which was a great help to Larry's widow. Bob had been building and maintaining drag racing engines for several local cars, plus had been racing a car of his own at Eddyville Dragway.
God Speed Bob!

It's just such a shame that we lose so many of the good ones. Rest in Peace, Bob. WC1

R.I.P. It seems like this is happening way too often so far this year.

I was caught completely off guard by Al's call a little bit ago. RIP Bob. Have a good time with my friend Larry Laverty up in heaven.

Prayers sent out from Laura and I to Bob's family.

Farewell, Bob. I'm glad that we have so many good friends up here to tell us about these great guys what we didn't get a chance to meet in person. bp

When my wife and I got to the funeral home today, there were 6 race cars sitting out front. The cemetery is only a half a mile from the funeral home so all 6 fired up and led the procession without as much as even a police escort. Bob's wife Kathy drove his race car with both daughters and her only granddaugter inside the single seat Camaro. The wife and I took a short cut and were standing on a hill in the cemetery watching as they all came down the street. And the weather was as great as an Iowa spring day can be.
Bob must have loved it.
Good bye my friend.
