John Thun

Postby racersforcoffee » Thu Sep 07, 2006 10:22 am

At the dawn of the '50's, a man began collecting bedrock to create a small airfield overlooking the Puyallup Valley- just someplace his WW2 buddies could barrelroll...someplace he could raise a few chickens. Before he knew it, he'd raised a wonderful family business, taught by example how to gently guide people on life's pathways...and started a little drag strip.
The precurser to Puyallup Dragway (located a few blocks north) helped many men and women in the Seattle/Tacoma area get their feet wet in our sport. When Thun sold his race track...er airport in '67, the legacy remained...as did his army of appreciative friends. Memorial services will be held at the Pierce County Fairgrounds-Pioneer Park in Graham Wa. this Sat. from Noonish til they toss us.

Never been there, but I've been in the sport long enough to know that the track was a major part of the growth of the sport over several decades. Time for a long rest for John... my condolences.
